One Month...and a New Blog

For those of you who have followed us this past month, 7:21 PM last night marked the one-month anniversary of the Shawnee Fire.

It's amazing what can transpire in a month...yet at the same time, some wounds feel as if they'll take forever to heal.

Case in point:

11:00 PM last night.

Kathi is over at Amy & Lee's apartment, saying goodbye to Stormy the rescue cat who is heading to Wayside Waifs tomorrow to find her forever home.

A fire truck comes screaming into the apartment complex. Again. Conversation comes to an abrupt halt as, hearts pounding, they rush out -- to find a medical emergency in an adjacent apartment building. Needless to say, the timing isn't exactly great. But as far as Amy & Kathi are concerned, when sirens are involved, the timing may always be bad.

And it doesn't help that Kathi's new apartment still smells like smoke from fire #2....

After a month, most people tend to drift away from tragedy. Other things vie for their attention, and at any rate, the victims seem to be adjusting well. At least in public. But we know that grieving and healing take time.

So on this anniversary, we wanted to take a moment to let Amy & Kathi know: your friends are still here for you.

Thanks to everyone for your support of Amy/Sebastian and Kathi/CJ - both financially and emotionally. Words cannot express how much that means!

And now, by popular demand...CJ now has his own blog, CJ's Paw Pad. Go take a look at how well his fur is beginning to grow back in!

  2. It has only been a month... I suspect with each passing month, it become a little easier, bit by bit. Time really does heal all. In the meantime, we're all thinking of you.

  3. Just took a look at CJ's new photos. He really is looking much better and I hope he's feeling better, too. I tried to leave this comment on his blog but that word verification thingy just simply refused to let me. Would you mind passing along my best wishes? Thanks!

    1. We did! We did! We told her it was because of the word verification thingy too, so hopefully CJ's mom will turn it off soon.

    3. oops, that'd help wouldn't it! Switch Back to the Old Interface, then click Settings, Comments and turn it off from there. Do that by making sure you're on your Overview page in your dashboard, then click on the gray wheel (cog) in the upper RH corner. You should be able to select Old Blogger interface from the drop down menu. Let us know if it doesn't work!

    1. We feel the same way. Unfortunately they live near a firehouse, so they hear them a lot. Hopefully with exposure like that over time they may become more immune to it?

  10. My thoughts are still with the fire's victims - something so devastating takes much, much longer to heal than most know.

  11. And I was his 2nd follower! I guess you never heal from tragedy. Pop still cringes when he hears a low-flying plane after he saw the 2nd plane that hit the World Trade Center pass thisclose to his office window before it turned and hit the WTC. That wa 10 1/2 years ago.

    1. Oh CK! You gotta go over there and tell him he's still handsome! Half his ear is about to slough off today (they were afraid that'd happen after the ear began to heal)....
