Monday Medical: Driving With Fido

Does this count as a Monday Medical? We think it does, simply because of the potential medical consequences associated with not heeding the advice of this infographic.

I'll never forget the graphic display on the interstate that I saw years ago - a consequence of a dog riding loose in the back of a pickup. I won't share the details. Just know it's burned indelibly in my memory.

And since the day before Thanksgiving consistently ranks as the busiest travel day of the year in the U.S., we thought this was an appropriate time to discuss.

  6. Great advise and perfect timing!
Me? The only traveling I'm doing this Thanksgiving is a quick jaunt from my bed to my food dish.

  8. I am probably guilty of doing a couple of those things. I won a cool new harness at the #BlogPawtyPALs that I just found out is also a seatbelt! Very excited about it.

  9. Our brother, the dog (the humans call him Sushi), has been in a car accident with our Mom. Mom says it was the scariest thing she's ever experienced. Another car not only hit into the front of her car, but then also into the driver's side. Mom says she remembers hearing Sushi scream at the moment of impact, and she will never forget it. Sushi was wearing a 3-in-1 vest Harness made by RC Pet Products. Mom has only bought 2, and Sushi is 9 yrs old. She won't buy anything else. She even told the company that they saved Sushi's life. She believes if Sushi had not been wearing it and secured in, that he would not be with us or very badly hurt. As much of a pain in the butt he can be, we are glad he is ok. As for us, Mom puts us in our crate in the back seat, and threads the seatbelt through the carrier handle to secure us in. Stay safe everyone, and thanks to Allie, Faraday & Maxwell for this post!

  14. Good advice! Our mum knows someone who always drives with her small dog on her lap. She has told her countless times that apart from being a distraction, if she were in an accident the air bag would most likely kill her dog when it inflated even if there was no other major damage.
