#MemeFail - MeowWorld Day 2

While Mommy's away at BarkWorld/MeowWorld, Daddy said he'd post for us.
He's not a morning person, so his go up at noon!

He's decided to do memes.
"They can't be THAT hard," he said.

(Purrsonally, we think Mommy needs to drop everything and rush back home....)

(Better. At least he got the font right.)

Wednesday's Waif: Orange

"Hello hello hello!!
My name is Orange. I bet you can tell why...wink wink."

"I am a 4 year old female domestic short hair. My fur coating is a beautiful orange and white as I am sure you noticed.

If the great folks here at wayside were to hold a contest I would win Best Tail prize!! Can you see my curlique at the tip end?

I am a great lap cat, but I do need to be in a house with adults or older kids. I don't play as nice with kids under 10. I think it's just because I am more mature.

I am not fond of being picked up but I will let you hold me in a football hold. Perfect for this time of year!!

Even though I like my solitude I also like attention. If you are looking for a steady companion who likes chin scratches, look no further than Orange!!

See you soon!"

Orange has her own facebook page where she shares all sorts of Orange Catitude. And as you can see here, well, she's got some!

And - of course - she's available for adoption, at Allie's Alma Mater: Wayside Waifs.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Albony

"Hello, thank you so much for stopping by to chat.

My name's Albony, and I'm a 4 year old grey girl with beautiful blue eyes."

"The nice lady says I just might have a touch of lynx point Siamese in me.
If that describes a girl who is eager to be friends and hungry for a loving touch, then that's me.

I've had a pretty tough few years. I can tell you from personal experience that being a single girl on the streets is no fun. In fact, it's downright scary.

I'm so glad I found my way here to Great Plains, but to be honest, I long for a relationship to call my own. A human who will love me forever.

Some of the kitties around me tease me, saying I shouldn't read so many happily-ever-after romance novels, but a girl can dream, can't she?

Do you know someone in the area who is looking for a girl? I'd love a chance to meet.
Who knows? Today might be my lucky day.

Forever dreaming,
Albony"

Sweet, beautiful Albony is available tpday at the Independence Campus of Great Plains SPCA. Wouldn't you like to meet her?

Birthday Commentathon...and Giveaway!

Today's the big day: we're celebrating Allie's 7th birthday.
As you can see, she's out on the deck, supervising as dad fires up the grill.

Won't you join us? We're hosting a Kansas City-style barbecue, with all the fixin's.

Lovely fall-like weather - are the leaves turning in your neck of the woods, too?

In lieu of a birthday gift, Allie has asked this year for a donation to Great Plains SPCA in honor of her special day.

Now, as you know, that's not her Alma Mater. But we know the folks at Wayside Waifs will understand, given that they currently only have 30 available cats and Great Plains has over 400.

We're going to be donating cans of Merrick grain-free cat food
that we purchased from our local Petco!

So we're holding a commentathon all weekend, and the funds we raise will go toward purchasing loads of yummy cat food for the kitties.

Sweet Surprise!

We were surprised and thrilled when Merrick contacted us a few days ago and asked if they could join in the celebration, too.

Guess what?
They're offering one of you an entire case of delicious Purrfect Bistro canned food!

All you need to do to enter the drawing is comment below. Be sure to tell us if you have a preferred flavor, too.

Then scroll back up and hit the big green "I commented!" button in the Rafflecopter widget below.  You'll have until midnight Sunday evening, November 2, to enter.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Allie: Thank you so much for coming to my birthday party!

Please enjoy delish grilled chicken and fish - prepared Kansas City-style, especially for you by our dad.

And don't forget to grab a few of these pawesome pink princess cookies too! Mother got them for me instead of a cake this year, and they're just too purrfect, don't you think?

Please, encourage friends to leave a comment, so our donation to Great Plains will be huuuuuge!

Many thanks to Merrick Pet Care for their unexpected partnership in this blog post. We were not compensated for this in any way, and the giveaway was entirely their idea. Cool, huh?

Thank you!

Allie received this lovely birthday card today from Truffles over at Melissa's Mochas, Mysteries & Meows - thank you so much for thinking of her!

FIV transmission in shelters

Good news for FIV+ shelter cats:

A study found in the August 2014 issue of The Veterinary Journal concludes shelters can house FIV+ cats with seronegative cats without concern that the disease will transmit to non-FIV cats.

The study followed two shelter organizations - one in-home rescue and one foster program - for 38 months. The study found that none of the cats followed changed their status (e.g. none of the non-FIV cats who were examined ended up testing positive during the course of the study).

Chairman Meow is one of three FIV+ cats currently
available for adoption at Wayside Waifs in Kansas City

Hopefully it will be studies like this that will finally reverse the Kansas law that forbids shelters from adopting FIV+ cats into homes. Kansas is the only state in the U.S. that has such a law.

And contrary to popular belief, FIV cannot be transmitted in the same way as feline leukemia or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), both of which are carried in fluids and mucous. FIV is transmitted through deep puncture wounds, not the light scuffle-play that most domestic cats engage in.

To read more about this study, click over to Winn's article, found here.

Wednesday's Waif: Chairman Meow

"Hullo everyone and thank you for your prompt attendance.
This meeting will now come to order!
(I've always wanted to say that - MOL!)"

"I'm Chairman Meow, and I've recently made the trek from Great Plains SPCA in Independence over to my buds here at Wayside.

Allie vouches for these folks, and I have to say, they're real stand-up peeps for sure. I've got my own room here, and the ladies are kinda sweet on an orange moggie as handsome as me. I'm loving all the attention!

I've been told that they're working hard to help dispel all those nasty rumors that come along with being an FIV kitty. I'm not sick, just slightly immune-suppressed. So (I can't believe I'm about to say something nice about a V-E-T here, but...) all I really need is a nice annual checkup.

Oh and a cushy indoor gig, too, please. That way I won't accidentally run into a kitty out in the 'hood who has a kitty cold I could catch!

Won't you come hang out with me so I can ply you with my mancatly charms and winning ways?
I just know we'd be purrfect for each other!

Purrs,
Chairman Meow"

Mister Meow is hanging out at Allie's Alma mater, Wayside Waifs -- just waiting for you to fall in love with him!

#TeamAllie is Svelte & (almost) 7!

That's right, Allie's birthday is this Saturday, Oct 25, (it's her 7th!) and she's all excited about celebrating her big day with a figure she hasn't seen in years.

Allie's taken her Extreme Feline Makeover to heart, eating healthy portions of quality food like Purrfect Bistro grain free canned foods.

(She prefers the paté flavors, personally. Actually Maxwell & Faraday do, too. Which she finds a bit disturbing, as Faraday keeps trying to help himself to her dinner!)

Allie: Quick, Mother. Distract the Brat so I can eat in peace!

She's also a firm believer in the idea that a healthy lifestyle needs to include regular exercise.

Check out the laps she's doing around the monkey grass along the front sidewalk.
Leap...turn...leap...repeat!

When we asked Allie what she wanted for her birthday this Saturday, she asked if we'd host a Kansas City style barbecue on the deck, with a commentathon open all weekend.

So please come back and visit us then!

And in lieu of gifts, she wanted to donate some Merrick Purrfect Bistro cat food to the cats over at Great Plains SPCA in Independence. They're slowly finding their forever homes, but as of a few days ago, their numbers still topped 450 and rising.

We think that's an awfully generous thing for her to do.

Uh, well most of us do, at any rate.

Help us raise funds for Great Plains SPCA - and tweak Faraday's nose a bit more - this Saturday at Allie's Birthday Bash!

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Swatch!

"Arrr, Mateys!  I'm Swatch and I'm ready for Meow Like a Pirate Day! Or to be a swashbuckling pirate this Halloween. All I need is a kitty sized eye patch and I'm good to go.

Some people call me a Special Needs kitty because I have one eye. And I hear whispers that people think I'm less adoptable because of it.

Arr, I say!  Make'em walk the plank!

I get around just fine!  And when I get time out of my kennel, I jump up and down off the chairs, visit all my buds in their kennels and can spot a cat treat a mile away with my remaining eye.
WORD.
I'm still living the good life, so no pity party for this little dude, 'k?"

"I'm friendly - which goes without saying for orange tabbies. We are known for our friendly personalities. In fact, a lot of people with very little cat experience are advised to choose one of us as we're very easy-going guys and would be a great practice cat.

Notice I said guys, because there are hardly ever any female orange tabbies. Maybe once in a blue moon, but Mother Nature simply doesn't make them. That's okay though - you have ME!

And see?  I'm a very educational fellow to have around, too.

I'm so sweet, loving and playful (Well I'm hardly out of the kitten stage - so I have been known to get a case of the Zoomies once in a while. I'm just TONS of fun!)

I especially like wand toys that I can chase or catch. Do you have any toys like that at your house? I'd love to see 'em. And if the answer is "no", not to worry, we can buy one at the Great Plains gift shop before we go home.

I'm so looking forward to meeting you - thanks for reading about me.
Your buddy,
Swatch"

Swatch is available to come home with you and zoom-zoom-zoom around your living room, TODAY!  Come meet him at the Independence Campus of Great Plains SPCA.

Sniffie Selfie

Seriouslies.

I don't know why Allie was making such a fuss over these yesterday.
Man-made or natural, they're still cold and hard.
And they have all the same cool smells a rock has.

GURLZ. Hmpf.

Attack of the Killer Laundry Basket.

So there I was, minding my own business.

Sitting on the clean laundry, keepin' it safe. When all of a sudden...

The khaki pants engaged in a vicious act of violence against my person.
I had no choice but to defend myself!!

Gaaaargh!  Take that, you gnarly knave!

Gnaaaaargh!

Once deaded, it's back to being ever-vigilant over the clean laundry.

A Guardcat's work never ends.
