So, ya think #MyPetLovesLG4KTV ?

This post is sponsored by LG 4K TV and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping to share the funny cat and dog video and this awesome giveaway, but A Tonk's Tail only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. I hereby proclaim today as Festivus Friday. And I have a grievance to air.
Seriouslies. Have you looked outside lately? Our BirdTV reception’s awful. No color whatsoever.
Dramatic Reenactment.
Maxwell: Dood. That’s because it’s almost winter outside.
Faraday: Please. I’m on a roll, here, Maxie. And SquirlTV? Totally sub-par.
Maxwell: Dood.

Faraday: Not now, Maxie! I’ve asked Mommy to tune the signal in better, but talk about poor customer service. She says there’s a backlog and nature won’t be able to get to my complaint until around March or April. I say we cancel our subscription and switch providers.

Maxwell: Dood.
Faraday: And don’t try selling me on Nat Geo again, Maxie. You just want momma to turn on the TV so you can swoon over your girlfriend, Abby.

Maxwell: Dood. Momma has a solution. And don’t you be dissing Abby, or I might hafta hurt you a little bit.
Faraday: Well, why didn’t you say so, Maxie? Seriouslies, speak up once in a while whydontcha.
***

Whether it's NCIS or Nat Geo Wild, both boys have a real affinity for our TVs (especially in the winter when the cable box is nice and warm). And if Allie sees a cat on the big screen, look out. All bets are off!

So that's nice and all, but what I'll bet you're really wondering is,
"why is a nice pet blog like this doing an LG sponsored post?"

Blame it on the day job. Okay, and because the chance to win a 40-inch LG 4K TV is pretty cool. (And it's a BlogPaws exclusive event, too.)

This post comes from a slightly different perspective than others you may read since it's related to what I do every day, and I hope it might actually be helpful - especially if you find yourself in the market for a TV in the coming years.

First: what exactly is 4K?
That's just a fancy way of saying that the image is a lot bigger than any current high definition image shown on cable or broadcast TV. If you have a 40-inch HD TV now, your picture will have twice the resolution on an LG 4K TV.And 4 times the pixels.

You might be thinking, hey, it wasn't that long ago that we flipped the switch to High Definition, back in June of '09.

It took us over 50 years to go from standard definition to high def. And now there's a new format? In under 5 years? Yep.

Holy Moley! And we used to watch Standard Def (green) and enjoy it?
Blue is HD. Pink is 4K.

If you're wondering that it might be too early to go 4K, here are a few stats that might surprise you:
  • Your favorite shows are shot in 4K and have been for some time. The first time I used a 4K camera in a production was over a year and a half ago!
  • Some shows on Netflix - and soon Amazon - already can be viewed in 4K. You can watch House of Cards, Breaking Bad, The Blacklist and even a few movies - provided your internet connection is fast enough to keep up.
(Why does an internet connection matter? Because a 4K streaming file is four times the size of HD!)
  • Possibly the most compelling argument: there are now over 20 smartphones that shoot 4K video.
  • And...YouTube now supports 4K too. You can upload and view anything you shoot!

With prices dropping on cameras (you can get one that'll shoot 4K for under $400) - and now with smartphones starting to integrate 4K cameras, too, well...

If you're in the market for a new TV, you might as well make it one with 4K (also called UHD) resolution. That's the wave of the future. Honest.

But hey, this is a pet blog, so let's get back to the important stuff:

Just think of the amazingly awesome and seriously realistic BirdTV you'll be able to capture for your favorite felines in 4K. I think Faraday just might even let me out of the doghouse before spring, if I were to buy him one.

... though it does kinda bring new meaning to the term "larger than life"....

Are your furry family members fascinated by TV?
Just think of how they'd react to 4K.
No, wait. See for yourself:

  3. Would love to see one of those 4K TVs in person. I'd also would love for my little furbaby to see it when the big cats are on. She'd be running and hiding, not chirping to them.

  9. Too. Much. Information. Wth all that new technology, I’m ashamed that we don’t have a smart phone or ipawd that takes photos and one of our tv’s—the one that’s not LG—is an old box tv with a flat screen. I’d LOVE to win this LG. You sure 4K isn’t the price of the tv?

  20. Hi Maxwell, Faraday and Allie!
You have such a fun blog. It's great to finally get a chance to come and visit. This new LG 4K TV would be perfect for Mommy to watch ALL my videos on. She's a Pixel video watching freak, um, I mean, fanatic, well...aficionado. Yeah.
One of the things Mommy Jenny loves about the new technology of the 4K is the greater number of pixels per square inch, making everything on the screen all the more crisp and clear, with sharper color, richer blacks and finer details. I was named specifically after the Pixels that make up images since Mommy is a photographer and digital media specialist, so this TV is super cool to us!
Here's to a cool TV and to a cool new friendship with you!
Merry Christmas, come visit some time!
