Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Dooley

"Hello! Please, let me introduce myself. I'm Dooley. I'm four years young, and quite the dashing mancat in my tuxedo outfit, don't you think?

And - if I do say so myself - I'm really the perfect feline companion for you and your children."

"I just love kids of all ages (as long as they are kind and gentle).

How do I know? Well, for one thing I just love attention. If you pet me I will reward you with purrs and kneading paws! And if you stroke me, I will arch my back for closer contact.

In addition to having the most loving nature you've ever seen, I'm a handsome guy too. Wait until you see my beautiful green eyes. You'll be impressed.

Please come to GPSPCA Independence campus and let's get to know each other. I'd love nothing more than to come home for the holidays t\with you.

Holiday purrs,
Dooley"

Handsome Dooley is available to come home with you today at the Independence Campus of Great Plains SPCA

Friday's Fashion Faux Paws

Allie: Honestly, some kitties have no fashion sense whatsoever.

It's at times like this that the Fashionable simply must take matters into their own well-manicured paws.

Step aside and let an Expert handle the PINK, Maxwell.

Maxwell: uhh-h-h-hh....
Faraday: WAIT. That means his Lounger's empty. SCORE!!

(Pee Ess: for anyone who came visiting earlier, mommy really does know how to spell,  but she seriously questions her phone's ability to do so.  "Sense,  since, sence"??? She's seriously ready to hack into auto correct and give it a wedgie!!!)

Thankful.

Four years ago last month, A Tonk's Tail began.

Some of you have been with us from the beginning, as we took our first fledgling steps on this digital canvas. You were with us when Allie came into our lives, and you were there when we lost Ryker so very suddenly.

Thank you.

You shared our joy as two six month old blue-eyed terrors charmed their way into our lives, and my personal terror they'd be named after elementary particles!

Some of you joined us more recently, and together we've enjoyed moments of mischief and mayhem, of laughter and learning and love.

Thank you.

This year alone we've had the joy of bringing before you 80 Waifs and Shelter Sweeties. Seventy of these have found forever families, and we know that a large part of this has been because of you. You cared, and you shared. And we are forever grateful.

We're humbled and amazed at the strength and compassion of the community of animal advocates, a community that spans the globe.

Thank you.

We want you to know how very thankful we are -- for your friendship, your warm and funny comments, your fellowship and support.

We wouldn't be here if it weren't for you.
So, from all of us to all of you:

Wednesday's Waif: Reddington

"Good day, ladies. Gentlemen. They call me The Professor."

"They say I'm rather a recondite feline. I can tell you I'm most certainly a particular and refined sort. And when one dedicates one's life to the study of all things erudite, well, one doesn't suffer fools easily, now. Agreed?

So yes, I've been known to be rather short with some of the more fluff-brained felines around here. But then again, I have my standards.

I also have a facebook page where I expound periodically. Would you like to see a few of my more memorable comments?"

"Ah yes. Seldovia. *shakes head* That was one of my more trying moments here at the shelter.

Why yes, I'm a resident here at Wayside. Temporary, I assure you. It just remains to be seen who might be the one human found to be the most perfect match for me.

Are you strong of heart? Then we just might suit.

Ask for the Professor when you stop by.

Distinguished purrs,
Reddington, Esq."

This intriguing and most notable feline is available for adoption at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs. And you can find him here on Facebook!

A Purrfect Thanksgiving Dinner for #TeamAllie

It's just days away from Thanksgiving, and Allie's totally into the holiday this year.

She's put in her order for Thanksgiving Day Dinner... quite literally, as you can see!
But then she heard Merrick had Turducken in their Purrfect Bistro line.

Since we've never bothered to serve this delectable dish at any of our Thanksgiving dinners prior to today, well...she insisted on taste-testing this as well.

Faraday: So Allie, uh...can I try it too?

Allie: Honestly, Faraday. Do you think just anycat can select the best foods to offer our guests? This calls for a sophisticated palate. Anycat that still plays "pull my paw" is automatically disqualified.

Faraday: *grumbles* But Mommy says it's polite to share.

Allie: Tell you what, Brat. I'll share this dish with you.

Faraday: Uhm, Allie. Cats don't eat cranberry sauce. Even if it is homemade.

Allie: Well, she garnished it with catnip. Then said something about it "adding color" to the photos, so deal with it.

Faraday: Catnip?!? Why didn't you say so??? **faceplant**

Allie: While Mother's busy hiding the pumpkin pie from a certain Tonkinese Terror, baking her fresh challah and 'from-scratch' stuffing, I'll be digging into some delish entrees from Merrick! Won't you join me?

This season we're very thankful that Allie is well on her way to her ideal weight, with her pounds lost in a slow and safe manner while eating a food she loves.

We three kitties are also very thankful to have a warm and loving home, and we wish the same for the many homeless pets across the world who are not so fortunate this holiday.

May they soon enjoy warmth and safety all their own.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie:

"Hi there! My name is Kitykins and I'm quite the success story.

I can't really say exactly what happened before I got to Great Plains SPCA. I was in pretty bad shape though, very badly injured. Thank goodness the med team here is so awesome. They saved my life and put me all back together again!

Through it all, I've been a real trooper. Everyone here says what a brave kitty I am and what a joyful spirit I have."

"The bad times are behind me now and I'm feeling great! There's nothing but smooth sailing ahead. All I need now is to find someone who will sail away with me through this wonderful life. Someone who will spend time with me and share all this love I have inside. Someone who will keep me safe so I never have to worry about being lost and hurt again. And someone who needs a very best friend as much as I do.

Let's not wait any longer to find one another, okay? Please come down to Great Plains to meet me. I can't wait to begin our great new life together!

Love,
Kitykins"

Kitykins is available at the Independence Campus of Great Plains SPCA.

It's an EPIC Giveaway! #NeatoBestPetVacuum

This post is sponsored by Neato Robot Vacuums and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. We are being compensated to help spread the word about Neato Robot Vacuums, but A Tonk's Tail only shares information that is relevant to our readers. Neato Robotics is not responsible for the content of this article.
______________________________________

If you've followed us for any amount of time, you know that we're real geeks at our house. Kinda comes with the whole "I'm married to a physicist" territory.

That basically means that if it's got a cool tech or scientific angle, we're all over it.

(Yeah, we're the ones with the Geiger counter stored in the kitchen cabinet, remember?)

So we were all sorts of excited to be chosen as one of the bloggers for the Neato Best Pet Vacuum campaign.

(TIP: you'll want to read to the end of this post, I guarantee. Can you say Giveaway??? Woot!)

Do I want one? Heck, yeah!

Geek-Out Time

Why do I want a Neato Vacuum?

Reason #1: Serious cleaning power.
Plush dust mite.
Because a real one?
That's just GROSS.

Most top performing vacuums specializing in allergens and pet filtration feature particle removal down to 0.5 microns in size. That's what two of our three upright vacuums do.

To give you a feel for the scale of the micron, this dot right here ( . ) is 615 microns, give or take, depending on the font size your browser loads it.

My uprights will pick up things like dust bunnies, human hair and dust mites. Gee, who knew those suckers were so big? They weigh in at a whopping 100 microns! (okay, so object in photo may or may not be larger than life.) They'll even pick up mold spores, at 10 microns.

Neato Robotics Botvac 85
But they can miss out on some of the more critical particles, like insecticide dusts we track in with our shoes. Or tobacco particles in homes with smokers.

That's the realm of top-tier of performance vacuums, the ones with the highest stated filtration: 0.3 microns. These vacuums can even pick up some viruses.

Yes, you guessed it: a Neato Vacuum falls into that top tier. That's the very best you can get from any commercial vacuum, anywhere.

Oh, and they filter out radioactive fallout, too. You know. In case you were wondering. (Geiger counter, remember?)

Reason #2: It's a nice time-saver. And it's pattern doesn't drive me nuts.

The time saver part is a slam-dunk. You program it once and walk away. The pattern thing is because, I admit, I'm a bit anal. Have you seen those Shark Cat videos? Have you watched how haphazard the pattern is on that thing he's riding? It would drive me nuts to see that. With the Neato Botvac, though, you get nice, neat rows. Now there's something I can appreciate.

And, of course, like Maxwell said in our last post, #BecauseLasers. BOOM.

Reason #3: I don't think it will scare the cats. Really, I don't.

I know we had a lively discussion in our last post's comments about whether or not the sound of a Neato Botvac would freak out a cat. Possibly, at first. And true, every cat has different "monsters under the bed" they deal with. But with ours, I think it's tied to the intimidating size of an upright.

To support my position, I referenced how our cats react to the loud noise of a remote-controlled drone flying inside our kitchen.

I can't imagine the Neato would be louder than this:

I think what intrigues the cats about the drone is how it moves. They are fascinated by them and love to chase them.

I can totally see our three doing the same with a Neato vacuum. (And yeah, I'd love to see Faraday riding it, too - if only for the photo opportunities!)

In addition to the Botvac 85 they're giving away, the guys over at Neato thought you might be interested in some helpful tips on how to manage pet shedding. You can find them in this online PDF file written by PetMD and Pet360, and sponsored by Neato Robotics. In this helpful guide, you'll read about shedding problems, nutrition to promote a healthy coat, and coat care tips.

Giveaway Time!

If you are interested in owning a Neato Robotics vacuum, here's your chance. Just fill in your name and contact info in the form below. You can enter once a day, and you have until 11:59 PM on December 2nd to enter.

Interested in another opportunity to win? There's a second sweepstakes hosted on Neato Robotic's web site. But you only have a few days to submit your entry there. That one ends at 11:59 PM, November 25th! Click here to enter.
