Tonk's Tail B&B: Open for Bizness

Didja hear? It's a most auspicious time around our home, because this evening, we're entertaining visitors, en route to the BlogPaws conference in Nashville. And not just any visitors, either.

So we three kitties decided we'd better hang out our shingle, real quick-like.

Checking into the Green Room this evening are none other than Katie & Waffles of Glogirly fame:

Waffles: Hey, Boss. Do you think they serve chicken there? Because if not, I might have to get a room at the Chicken Haus down the street, instead.

Katie: That's not a bad idea, actually. That way you couldn't embarrass me in front of Allie - and I might actually get some sleep for a change.

Waffles: Wait! We can order in! That way, Faraday & I can still conduct speed trials on their cat tree.

(Speed trials? uh, wait....)

Checking into the Blue Room this evening is another famous celebrity: Snotface the Ferret!

I cannot confirm or deny the rumor that I cuddled extensively with your human last year at BlogPaws....
 Two facts about Snotface:
  1. he's deaf, like our Maxwell (cool, huh!)
  2. and when today's post title read "open for bizness" - you just thought we were being clever, right? But actually, a group of ferrets is known as...you got it: a Business!

Faraday: Any other takers? We have one room left. . .
Maxwell: Dood, you can't book Momma's room!!!
Allie: *eyeroll* that Brat'll do anything for a buck....

Monday's Mime: Arthur Janov

Come again?
Maybe this'll help:

No? What about this?

HINT:
Arthur was the creator of the "new psychology" practice called Primal Scream Therapy - back in 1967.

Allie and Maxie get straight A's...don't you think?

Allie: hmmmm, I wonder if I can con -- ahh, talk -- our guests into a second dessert?
Those bonito flakes were divine!

Maxwell: Doods! When it comes to kitty creativity, the SKY's the Limit!

(uh, and yeah, we're totally claiming creativity here, because no "sky" photos!)

petMD: Knowledge Worth Reading #sponsored

This post is sponsored by petMD and ARM & HAMMER™, and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about The petMDCat Care Center, but A Tonk's Tail only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Arm & Hammer and petMD are not responsible for the content of this article.

I was asked recently if I'd be interested in promoting the petMD Cat Care Center (sponsored by ARM & HAMMER™ CLUMP & SEAL™ LightWeight litter). I had been on the site before, but wanted to give it a more critical once-over before I gave them my decision.

Wow. This was probably one of the easiest decisions I've made. I'll show you why in a sec.

First, here's a brief overview of what you'll find on this site. The landing page for the Cat Care Center asks you to begin by selecting your cat's age. This allows petMD to curate their site so that the articles most relevant to you will be what you see first.

Hovering over one of the grey boxes will pop up an age you can click on. I selected 4 years - Faraday's age (until July, at least!).

This takes you to a customized Cat Care Center main page that groups topics into six different categories:
Care, Health, Emergency, Behavior, Home and Bonding.

As I browsed through the different sections, I found articles on CPR and Artificial Respiration for Senior Cats (Emergency category). This is totally on my punch list, by the way.

Under Behavior, there was an article on how your cat's behavior may change with age. (If we could educate pet owners about this, might it lower shelter intake rates? It's possible.)

Then in the Care section, I found one on how to keep your cat's teeth clean. It's probably no great surprise that this caught my attention - especially given Maxwell's adventures with gingivitis (and those frequent visits from the Tooth Fairy).

Maxwell: Seriously momma, it's genetic. I floss and everything, honest!

At the end of the article, I discovered this gem:
"...you can also include deboned raw meat to stimulate him to chew, which helps to keep the bones strong. Vary the meats, too. Besides fish, you can also feed your cat beef and rabbit."
I might have squeeed a little. (okay, a lot...)

I am so excited that petMD's Cat Care Center mentioned this. You've heard me talk before about the fact cats are obligate carnivores. I personally believe that providing them with the kinds of food they would find in the wild is a great thing.

And because of their shorter digestive tracts, a cat is well-suited to handle raw meat without encountering some of the concerns we humans might face under the same circumstances. (wait, we eat sushi, too...)

Allie: "Did someone mention sushi?"

There's a lot to like about petMD's Cat Care Center. The website maintains a comprehensive library of more than 10,000 pet health articles, all written and approved by their network of trusted veterinarians.

They told me they're also the world’s largest digital resource for pet health and wellness information and has become the go-to resource for millions of pet parents across the globe. I can see why.

Our thanks to the folks at ARM & HAMMER™ CLUMP & SEAL™  LightWeight litter for sponsoring such a wealth of information for our four-legged family members.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Camila

"You know that great feeling when you know somebody loves you? That's just what I need, because I'm a really good kitty who loves to be loved.

My name is Camila, and I'm looking for my special person - the one who can give me my forever home."

"A very kind person brought me in to Great Plains after she found me wandering outside. I was in a lot of pain at that time, because I hurt by back leg a while before that. But the Great Plains staff has taken such good care of me. I've been here a while, but that's only because they're getting me ready for my forever home.

You see, I have a few special things about me. First, as I mentioned, I had a hurt back leg. Well, that's not a problem anymore because I am now what all the staff and volunteers affectionately call a tripod! I had my leg amputated in April, and now I have no problem hopping around!

I'm also special because when I came in, the staff noticed I was having trouble seeing. Since then, I've lost most of my vision. But, if you watch me explore a new place, you'd never know the difference!

They call me the biscuit maker because that is my BEST talent. Whether I'm making biscuits on you or in the air, it's my favorite thing in the world to do. The best times are when I'm getting petted or held - then I'll make biscuits all day long for you!

My foster mom says I'm the sweetest kitty she's ever met. I take that as quite the compliment! Speaking of petting, you'll notice I have beautiful long fur - it might look black to you, but I assure you, I've got style in my fur. It's an ombre of colors - starting with a smoky black around my face and transitioning in to a chocolaty brown near my belly.

I am very beautiful if I do say so myself! So what do ya think? I'm a pretty great catch - especially if you're looking for a cuddly loving experienced girl. Don't let my special traits stop you from meeting me! Now that they're all taken care of, I'm just like any other kitty - waiting for my forever family."

We love differently-abled cats like Camilla and we're purring she finds her forever home very soon.

Camilla is available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA!

A Lick and a #SundaySelfie

Faraday: Hurry, Maxie! Waffles is on his way - he'll be here in a week. We better get Mommy to vacuum the Lounger, too...

Caturday Art: DeflateGate Redux

Faraday: Okay, so maybe I was playin' with Maxie's blue ball again....

By the way, somebody totally needs to report him.
I mean, seriouslies, can you say DeflateGate?
This nip would never pass KFL (Kitty Football League) guidelines.

So I didn't feel guilty at all takin' it for my Caturday Art. Besides, he's not the only kitteh in the house who can catch some air.

Remember this photo?

Hah. Well check this out:

Who's got the moves, now, Maxie? Hmmm?

Maxwell: Well, hello, white-feather wand toy...are you ready to go a few rounds?

One moment ...

"For the wand toy fun we are about to recieve, we give thanks."

...and my apologies in advance for any unsightly shredding you might encounter.

Okay, Mister wand toy.
