Orange you glad it's Thursday?

We are!

And we have two very unique Oranges to share with you today!
(you did know most orange moggies are male, right?)
We're celebrating Orange Girlcat Power here today, with two very Eligible Bachelorettes:
Godiva and Ruby.

Up first: Godiva.

"Pleased to meet you! I'm Godiva, and I think they call me that cause I'm very sweet, like those fancy chocolates by the same name."

"I'm so thankful you are taking a moment to read about me. I came to Wayside from another shelter that was low on space, but I'm excited to be here, where I can find my forever person or people.

I don't mean to brag, but I've heard people say that I'm one of the cutest kitties at Wayside. They say I have an adorable little face and and a chubby little body. I have cute little freckles on my nose."

"I'm a very friendly, affectionate girl. I love to have my tummy rubbed and my back scratched. I also enjoy sitting on laps, so if you have one of those, that would be great! At my previous shelter, I was housed with other cats and got along just fine with them.

I also like children. So, if you have a cat or a kid who needs a friend, I may be a good fit."

"There's one more thing you should know about me: I am FIV-positive. But really, FIV isn't as scary as it sounds, honest! It just means that my immune system is somewhat compromised, so it's extra important that I have an indoors-only lifestyle and get good food and regular veterinary care.

That's what any great adopter would give a cat, right? I have my own room at Wayside, and I hope you will drop in on me soon

Love, purrs and orange headbutts,
Godiva"

Next up: RUBY!

"Hello there! My name is Ruby! I think they call me that because of my beautiful red (or orange) coat. Oh, and also because I'm a real gem. I'm a sweet, talkative, domestic shorthair girl who loves people very much."

"I'm declawed on all four paws. I was surrendered to Wayside because my previous person was moving and couldn't take me along. I was pretty scared and shy when I first came to Wayside, but the the wonderful staff and volunteers here have been working with me, and I have come a long way in a pretty short time.

I adore affection, and I love being petted on my neck, head, chin and ears. However, I'm not at all fond of being picked up. For that reason, I should go to a home with no children under the age of 5."

"I really love to play, too, and my favorite toy is a wand toy. It's so much fun! Wayside has a new program called Slumber Paw-ty, where potential adopters can take pets home for a trial run before making a commitment. I am eligible for that program."

So, if you're thinking about adding a ruby-red bundle of sweetness and love to your life, why don't you come to Wayside and check me out?

(Psst! Guess what? You might be able to see me LIVE on Wayside's Kitty Cam today!
Be sure to wave hello if you do!)

I can't wait to meet you!
Love and orange purrs,
Ruby"

These gorgeous orange girls are both available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Awards

BlogPaws is seeking nominations for the blogs you love to read.

Please take a moment to submit your favorites.
The bloggers who work so hard to bring you
entertainment and information will thank you!

For links and instructions CLICK HERE.

We know it's a bit nosy, but ...

Mind if we ask you a personal question?
Do you have certain blogs you just love to visit?

Web sites you've made a part of your morning routine?
Your lunchtime laugh? Your after-dinner entertainment?

(okay, that was more like five questions)

Maybe there's someone whose sense of humor brightens your day.
Perhaps they inspire you to do better, to reach farther, to expand your knowledge.
Here's your chance to tell them thanks, in a big way.
BlogPaws is asking you to nominate your favorite pet bloggers, now through April 11.

The Nose-to-Nose Awards are among the most prestigious in pet social media, honoring excellence in content. They're judged - not by popularity (and not by Faraday, we promise) - but by a panel of pet advocates, writers, bloggers, and pet industry experts.

Not THAT kind of judge, Faraday. And no, you weren't invited to help.
These judges evaluate submissions based on merit and quality, not by how many followers you have, nor by how long you've been blogging.

We'll be nominating our favorites, and we encourage you to do the same. And if we've brought a smile to your face or brightened your day just a little bit, it would mean the world to us if you chose to nominate us as well. Did you know in all the years we've been blogging, we've never been finalists?

How it works

There are twelve categories available. Some are more specific, like Best Photo, and others are more broad, like Best Humor Blog.

Remember how Maxie got his tooth back? This is one of our very favorite photos.

BlogPaws asks you for three pieces of information when nominating a blog.
Here's ours:
Direct link or URL of blog ~ http://www.atonkstail.com
Name of creator of work ~ Lisa Richman
Email of blogger ~ tonkstail@gmail.com

Nose-to-Nose Categories

Best Cat Blog
This one's easy to nominate - no additional information required!

And if you have a can't-miss dog blog, a must-see pet Facebook page or a deserving non-profit site, there are special categories for them, too.

Some ask you to provide a representative link they'll use to judge.
Here are a few of our favorites:

Best Blog Video
This year, we were honored to be able to share a very special message with you:

“For the Animals”

This message is from bloggers, animal advocates and pet lovers around the world to future generations. It's a wish for a better tomorrow, a hope for a brighter future.

These are real people, and their actual voices, photos and videos from all over the world. It's no exaggeration to say this was truly a labor of love. To be nominated for Best Video would mean so much to so many.
You'll need this link to the blog post where it’s embedded:
http://www.atonkstail.com/2015/12/a-labor-of-love.html

And in case you haven't yet seen it, go grab a tissue and click play :-)
We hope it touches your heart as much as it has ours.

Next, is National Love Your Pet Day.
We celebrated this day with a catchy tune and tons of real people snuggling with their furry family members. It's a tribute to the love we all share.

Best Humor Blog

These are the posts that make our mom giggle every time she looks at them.
Do your humans go back and giggle at things over and over? Or is ours just weird like that?

A Heartfelt Thank You

We know this takes time out of your day to nominate us. I wish we could adequately express how very much that means to us ~ especially as our mom's health issues have limited our ability both to blog and to visit other bloggers.

We value your friendship and cherish every comment you leave with us.

Thank you for sharing our joy of cats - especially three characters who have utterly stolen our hearts and who charm us, each and every day.

Thursday's Purrs: Millie

"Hello there! My name is Millie - but some of the people here at Great Plains call me Grace. Just the other day someone whispered to me that I was as sweet and graceful as could be.

They said that if my gorgeous dilute tortie fur doesn't draw you in, my sweet curious personality was sure to!"

"I have a bit of a hard-luck story to tell you. Someone found me in an elementary school playground, you see, all lost and alone. Then they brought me here to Great Plains SPCA.

They have taken very good care of me here, but I think I'm ready to go home and find my forever family. Don't be worried about me being an older girl, it just means I'm pre-loved and I know how to be a good kitty.

In fact, I'm still very curious and playful!"

"I may be on the quieter side, but I have a loud personality to make up for it.
And, I just love to be petted!

(P.S. I may look like I am sleeping when you come see me, but I am really just resting up, waiting to be loved, honest!)

Please won't you come pay me a visit?

Hopeful purrrs,
Millie"

Millie's available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA.

Awkward Moments

Allie: Oooh, you lovely, lovely pink toy, you!

I could just rub on you and roll with you all da--

 *cue heavy breathing*

Maxwell: Don't mind me, Allie. I'm just, uh, you know - living vicariously through you.
Because that toy looks so amazing and all. Go ahead. I won't bother you.

Allie: Maxie, you do know how to ruin the mood.

Maxwell: Does that mean you're done with it?

Because, like, if you are and stuff....

Happy Awkward Moments Day!

Thursday's Purrs: Sir Purrington

"Hey there, I'm Sir Purrington. Quite the name for quite the cat! I weigh about 13 pounds and have a soft, black and white coat, perfect for rubs."

"I was brought here to Wayside when my last owner found me as a stray and couldn't keep me. I was pretty bummed at first but then I realized I've been given the second chance at life that I deserve!

"I can't wait to meet my peeps and get to my fur-ever home. They've given me the felinality of side kick. What's that mean? I'm plain good company! I'll love to be right by your side getting plenty of attention.

Now don't get me wrong, even though I'll be fine being the center of attention I still enjoy my solitude but I won't be looking for trouble during my alone time, I'll be thinking of you!

If you're looking for a steady companion in this crazy life, then look no further! Please come say hi soon at Wayside Waifs!

Friendly purrs from
Yours Truly"

Sir Purrington's available today at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Check out our #CatTeaPotty #ad

This post is sponsored by Weruva and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network. I am being compensated for helping create awareness around Weruva's brand new natural cat litter, but we only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. Weruva is not responsible for the content of this article.

When we heard Weruva® had recently released a cat litter that was both sustainable and clay-free, we were very interested. You see, our home became a No Clay Zone years ago.

And for good reason, too.

Clay = Not always the best

First: Clumping clay litter often contains sodium bentonite - which itself is a form of clay, and there are concerns that it can be a contributing factor in gastrointestinal blockage in cats.

Second: Kittens are particularly vulnerable to sodium bentonite toxicosis, and many shelters (including ours) instruct foster families to avoid clay litters for that reason.

Third: Clay litter also contains silica dust, which can cause respiratory problems if inhaled.
Fourth: Clay-free means it's eco-friendly, since clay litter use promotes clay strip mining.

(Okay, and Allie loves the totally styling package design. Any company with the Good Taste to label a bag of litter with such Fashion Forward colors after all...!)

How does Weruva Cat Litter differ from more traditional litters?

After a few weeks' use, I'm finding that it holds up better to multi-use than other clumping non-clay litters.

Specifically, I've noticed that some non-clay litters can refine down to a more powdery consistency after a few weeks of litterbox scooping. I haven't noticed this kind of "wear" (for lack of a better term) in the Weruva litter. And this seems to be translating to less dust.

It does have a slightly different consistency than other non-clay clumping litters.  The granules are a bit more coarse. Where other litters mimic clay litters more closely, I think the coarse consistency may be where the low dust is coming from.

It's also a lot more lightweight than traditional litter.

Take a look:

But how does this slight difference impact Weruva Cat Litter's clumping ability?
We're glad you asked. We did a video clump test for you:

Hey, did you catch the title of that video? So what is Hinoki & Green Tea anyway?

Hinoki wood is a species of cypress native to central Japan. And get this: for every tree used to create Weruva litter, another is planted. This makes their litter a sustainable alternative, as well as an eco-friendly one.

But there is another reason they use Hinoki wood. The characteristics of Hinoki Wood naturally curb humidity. Another ingredient, Green Tea, contains catechins. These ingredients both work together to suppress the growth of mold and bacteria - and that, in turn aids in odor control.

Let's talk odor for a second.

I also like that they do not add any additional scent to their litter. A cat's sense of smell is 14 times more sensitive than that of a human, and an overpowering litter can negatively impact a cat's willingness to use its litterbox. With improper litterbox use one of the top reasons cats are abandoned to shelters, no brand should be adding extra scent to irritate sensitive feline noses!

In all, we give this litter four paws way up. If you use clay litter now, please consider giving this one a try. You can buy it online through Pet360 - and if you do, please let us know how you like it.

Besides. It came with this incredibly amazing cardboard box. (And some sweet food samples, too!)

Seriously. #SCORE
