Dinnertime Watch-Cat

Allie: See anything yet, Maxie?

Maxwell: *sigh* No ... nothing.

Maxwell: Wait. Is that ...?

Nope. Not them.
They did say they were coming home from work on time today, didn't they?

Not that I'm borrowing trouble or anything ... but my tummy's growling.

Allie: Well, we could always open the cabinet and rip into the bonito flakes.
And blame it on Faraday when they come in.

Maxwell: That's, uh, kind of devious, Allie.

Allie: Yes, but completely in character for him, thus a workable ruse.
(Hmm. Who knew I'd actually pick up a few pointers from the Brat? Is that Hell I hear freezing over?)

Thursday's Purrs: Blossom

We first introduced you to Blossom last November. This marmalade girl is still looking for her forever family. Won't you please share?

***

"Hullo folks, I'm Blossom, the rare orange girlcat! Did you know most orange moggies are of the male persuasion?

Although some humans may call me a bit ornery, I'm really a very sweet and fun-loving girl -- with a healthy side of catitude.

My loves are playing, sun bathing and long afternoon naps. What are yours?
I love to be with people, and let me tell you, those head and neck scritches totally rock!"

"My dislikes are being picked up and taking my medicine, (well, duh, what kitty would like that, I ask you?). I've been told I need the stuff twice a day, though, for a delicate tummy.

"I've been called a 'chatty cathy' (whatver THAT is). I am pretty talkative and would love to chat you up if you're willing to chat.

I'm an Independent Girlcat of Means, and I take my role of House Investigator very seriously.
When not working, I do love a good round of Red Dot.

Being a Proper Ladycat and all, I'm a diligent  kitty post scratcher -- and I never scratch the furniture."

"I get along well with dogs, but prefer to be the only cat of the house.

In exchange for your love, I promise cuddle up with you at night and be a loyal companion. I desperately want a home of my own and a human who adores me and accepts me for who I am. (Which if you ask my foster parents, is a pretty darn great!)

Won't you come meet me and see how we get along? I'll bet we'd get on famously!

Orange girlcat purrs,
Blossom"

Cat Conversations, Part 2

Allie: Don't expect to chat me up at the screen door, Brat.
I'm not as patient as Maxwell.

Faraday: You're not the Boss of me, Allie.

(long pause)

Allie: (sniffs, eyes wide)

FARADAY. Did you just ... ?!

Faraday: (obstinate look)

Yup.

Cat Conversations

Faraday: Nice day out, Maxie.
Maxwell: Yup.

Faraday: Not too hot, either.
Maxwell: Nope.

Faraday: Great whiffs, too.
Maxwell: Yup.

Faraday: Catnip's lookin' good.
Maxwell: Yup.

Faraday: Izzat a squirrel under that tree, Maxie?
Maxwell: Ahh-yup.

Faraday: Seriouslies, Maxie. What'd you do, use up all your big words on Friday?

Maxwell: (contemplative pause)

 Yup.

Big Word Day PeeMail Dustup

Who knew Big Word Day would cause such friction?
Or maybe Allie just likes stirring the pot a bit ....

Not that Faraday had the first clue what Maxwell was saying ....

Happy Big Word Day! Did we expand your vocabulary a bit?
Writing this post sure did it for us!  ;-)

Thursday's Purrs: Cookie

"Hello! My name is Cookie, and I'm 3 years old - just out of my teenage years!"

This is me before my surgery. Hurt and scared, but safe now.

"Well, to be honest -- I haven't had much of a childhood. You see, I was abandoned when I was barely out of kittenhood. I had to grow up fast!

Thankfully, there have been a few kind souls who have looked out for me during these rough few years. A kind lady who fosters has been feeding me.

There are so many things that can harm a young girl forced to fend for herself, you know?"

Me, contemplating how scary life was ....

"One day, I showed up injured, and this kind human gathered me up and took me to get me the help I needed. She brought me to Dr. Bassett at Small Creatures Animal Hospital here in the Kansas City area.

Dr. Bassett discovered my injury was so severe my back leg had to be amputated. But no worries!  I get along just great with my remaining three!

Dr. Basset also says I'm a very healthy girl - and even gave me all my vaccinations."

Will anyone want me, after I lose this damaged leg?

"I have to admit, being homeless has made me a bit scared of new situations. After all, my first humans abandoned me  ....

But my foster human has shown me that humans - and other cats - can be trusted."

Me, safe and secure, dreaming of my forever home!

And the other cats have convinced me that there is a human waiting out there just for me. *sigh*  Wouldn't that be wonderful?  A home, safety, food ... and companionship.
Won't you help me find a forever home of my very own by sharing my story?"

With hopeful purrs,
Cookie"

Cookie's available at All Creatures Small Animal Hospital in Overland Park, KS.

In honor of International Haiku Poetry Day

We present Maxwell's first haiku:

 Peach blossoms, blue eyes
 Vicarious living
inside cat smells spring.

*sigh*

When is that nice, outdoorsy Catio being built for us, again, dad?

Maxwell's Birthday Surprise

Today was our blue-eyed boy's 7th birthday.
And if you ask him, it was pretty special.

He got to watch On Demand Bird TV ...
in 3D IMAX ...

All. Day. Long.

Reach as High as You Can Day

Today's National Reach as High as You Can Day, and Faraday's all ready for it.

Or maybe he's just channeling his inner maneki-neko.

... or maybe Horshack, from Welcome Back Kotter ... ?

In all seriousness, we kind of like this day.
Its aim is to remind you not to let your dreams go adrift.
Nice one, yes?

Thursday's Purrs: Wanda

UPDATE: Wands was adopted THE VERY NEXT DAY!

"I’m Wanda, a beautiful green-eyed, brown and black tabby girl with a big purrsonality. If you come to Wayside to meet me, I will most likely say hello first, so I can get your attention."

"I might even show you how well I case the joint how seriously I take security. I've been known to make the rounds here at Wayside to ensure wayward toys don't get out of hand -- err, paw."

"I’ve had quite the journey to Wayside. I came from another shelter (out of state!) that was out of space. Now here I am, ready to find my human! The people here at Wayside tell me I’m beautiful. But to feel my luxuriously soft fur, you'll have to come to Wayside and meet me."

"I might even give you a demonstration of my 'flat pose'! (check out my video, I might have given you a sneak peek.)

In the meantime, I’ll just be hanging here, looking for a little conversation, a snuggle or two ... and you!

Purrs,
Wanda"

Wanda's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Walk on the Wild(life) Side

Allie: *sigh* All that lovely wildlife. That lovely tasty wildlife.

Wait.
Is that a nepeta cataria from the family Lamiaceae?

Faraday: *off camera* It's just CATNIP, Allie. Sheeeeeesh.

Allie: *sigh* Please tell me he was adopted.

Happy Walk on your Wild Side Day
(how do you plan to observe?)

Dog ... WHAT ... Day?

Maxwell: Hey Allie, know what tomorrow is?

Ask me. C'mon, ask me!

Allie: *sigh*  I know I'm going to regret this ....

Okay, Maxie. What's tomorrow?

Maxwell: Here, lemme give you a little hint ....

*cue -- err -- sound effects ... *

Saturday, April 8:
Dog Farting Awareness Day

Allie: Oh why wasn't I an only child ...?

Thursday's Purrs: Lisa

"So pleased to meet you! My name is Lisa, and I came to Wayside when the folks here offered to help another local shelter out when they were running low on space. Wasn't that nice?"

"As you can see, I’m an orange tabby girl -- hey, did you know we orange girls are a bit rare? Usually orange tabbies are boys!"

"I've been told my golden eye is gorgeous and offsets my coloring beautifully.

Yep, just one eye! You see, my left eye was giving me a lot of problems, so the veterinarians at my previous shelter felt it was best to remove it.

I do fine with one eye, though. It sure doesn’t stop me from playing!"

"I love toys, but my favorite? That's the wand toy, paws down. So much fun!

I’m a friendly cat who enjoys attention. However, I’m not at all fond of having my tail tugged, so I would be happiest in a home with no children under the age of 5.

My Felineality is Sidekick. That means I’m a people-oriented cat who is moderately brave in new situations. Whatever you are doing, I will be happy to hang out with you, making you look good.

Do I sound like the girl for you? If so, won't you head on out so we can meet face to fur?
Looking forward to it!

Love,
Lisa"
