Neko Flies and Chewy: WIN-WIN!

Recently, the nice man from Chewy.com heard that Maxwell was a Neko fanatic, and so he asked if Max would like to review one of the Neko Flies wand toys that Chewy.com now carries.

Would he ever!

Then the special package arrives. Of course, what's a good story without a bit of conflict...?

Maxwell was amused.

Until Faraday noticed that Maxie had ordered the Katarantula Spider Cat Toy. Which is PINK.

Merciless teasing ensued.

And then, of course, there was Allie. Who figured anything PINK was her lawful territory.

Maxwell, being the nice kitty that he is, let ladies go first.
(or was it simply that Allie snagged it out from under Maxie's nose?)

Needless to say, she gave the Neko Flies ten pink toenails UP, waaaay UP, as you can see from her photo essay to the right.

She felt that pink would stand out quite nicely against the green grass. The boys knew better than to argue the point.

Especially since they have firsthand experience with the swiftness of those pink paws, as evidenced in the center photo.

Once his Katarantula had been liberated from Her Highness and was once again in his possession, it became obvious that this particular Neko Flies toy would be as big a hit in our home as the Kittenator. Or the Kittycada.

We thank Chewy.com profusely for giving us this toy for review. To say Neko is the favorite brand in our home is not overstating.

There's only one problem:

Maxwell - our gentlemanly cat, the paragon of kitten virtue, the very model of feline behavior -
WILL. NOT. SHARE.

Is there a Neko Flies Anonymouse Chapter in the Midwest? Anyone?

______
Many thanks to Chewy.com for the Neko Flies toy. By the way, we order our food & litter from them periodically, and shipping from Chewy.com is a breeze. There's free shipping on every order $49 and above, and anything less is a reasonable $4.95.

Chewy.com graciously gave Neko Flies to us to review, but all opinions are strictly our own.

Our Five Fave Tweets November, 2012

Our monthly series continues...

When I asked for another WAND Toy, Mommy told me I already had toys coming out the Wazoo.  COOL! Where's the wazoo, I gotta camp out in front of it!

Dood, seriously. That's, like, anatomically impossible.

SQUEE! I ran into the neighbor's yard & found half a Dead BIRD! *breathless voice* and then I rolled in it.... *concerned look* You don't think that hurts my image do you? *pats coif*

SNIFF What's that smell?!?!? Allie? You...you...smell... WAY COOL!  I gotta tell the other cats. Bet their sisters don't smell like THIS.

Allie BIT me in the BUTT last night without ANY provocation.
Maxwell: Dude. You stepped on her FACE.

This is a random gathering of pet-related things we thought you might find interesting.
(Okay, and a lot of it is from Mommy's snoop time on Pinterest!)

Oh my cat, are we ever excited about today's Fun Find! Thanks to the folks over at Animal Shelter Volunteer Life, we learned about these Trayfe Mousies, and just had to have one!

They're only $5 and can be bought from several stores online. We're getting ours from Oy Toys cuz we love the store's name!

"Trayfe" (or "traif") is yiddish for "not kosher". Our humans don't eat trayf...but we kittehs LOVE batting it around! Mommy cuts off the string and bell on these kinds of toys, so we won't choke on it.

We told Mommy not to order the Lox - we prefer the Real Deal in that instance! *licks lips*

Thursday Trivia: Let the cat out of the bag

According to the website, Mental Floss, "the first documented use of the phrase in the sense of 'revealing a secret' comes from a book review in a 1760 issue of The London Magazine, wherein the reviewer laments that, 'We could have wished that the author had not let the cat out of the bag.' That, unfortunately, is about all we know for sure."

They go on to tell us about one possible yet unconfirmable origin:
"The first origin story claims the phrase refers to the cat o’ nine tails, infamously used by the Royal Navy as an instrument of punishment aboard its ships. The whip’s nine knotted cords could scratch an undisciplined sailor’s back pretty badly, hence its feline nickname. The bag comes into play because the “cat,” being made of leather, had to be kept in a sack to protect it from drying out in the salty sea air and keep it flexible. Removing a whip from a sack doesn’t immediately seem to have anything to do with revealing a secret (that the lash was on board the ship and would be readily used shouldn’t have been a secret to any sailor), but if you think of “letting the cat out of the bag” as a revelation that results in a punishment, it makes a little more sense."

Snopes is skeptical though, and offers this possible explanation:
"[Perhaps] "letting the cat out of the bag" was always meant as no more than an entertaining mental image of the explosiveness of a confidence's revelation — usually what is deliberately concealed is of a salacious or titillating nature, thus there are often huge elements of shock and surprise when the truth comes out, somewhat akin to the commotion raised by a frightened cat suddenly loosed from the bag that had imprisoned it. Or it could have to do with a similarity between the behavior of both secrets and cats — once either is let out, they go wherever they want. (In other words, private news that has been made public spreads far and wide, despite all efforts to keep it contained.)"

We're taking bets - where do you think the phrase originated?

Save a Pet, Save your Life!

This infographic was created by Carlton Hobbs, LLC and NowSourcing, and it's worth sharing.

We agree - saving a pet is the healthy way to go!

We want to reiterate that last point. Many wonderful, deserving animals are sitting in shelters right now, waiting for someone to give them a home. Please adopt if you can. And if you can't...?

Those shelters need you.

Think about it this way: if a shelter houses 100 dogs - no, say they only have 50....
Have you considered the number of man-hours a day it takes, just to give each poor dog a 30 minute potty break and leg stretch outside?

That's 25 man-hours, the equivalent of three 8-hour work days, each day. And that's not taking into consideration other tasks like feeding, cleaning and medical care, plus other maintenance. The same goes for shelter cats. If they get even 30 minutes of socialization time a day, those hours add up.

Shelters depend upon volunteers like you to keep them afloat. So if you can't adopt, please consider volunteering. Do it for that sweet, deserving animal trapped in that cage who desperately longs for his forever home.
