Thursday's Purrs: Merryweather

"Hi there! People say I'm very aptly named because I'm a very merry kitty, indeed.
Wait -- here, let me try a serious face for you ...."

Serious Face.
"How'd I do? Whew, glad that was over, I'm not known for being a solemn guy. I tend to be the outgoing one in the crowd who comes right up to you for head bonks and kitty kisses.

It might also have something to do with the fact that I had to survive paw-to-mouth on the streets before being found and brought here. Let me tell you, three solids and a nice soft bed are pretty pawesome!"

"Not to mention they have some pretty rad kitty toys here. I do love me a mean game of tug-o-war with a catnip sock, I do. (Just check out my video and you'll see for yourself!)"

"I do have a touch of arthritis in my shoulder - an old war wound, but let's not speak of it. I'm sure you understand. But the good folks here have me on some medications that make me feel much better!

I've been through a lot in a mere 4 1/2 years, and I'm ready to settle down with my very own forever family. Might you be the purrfect match for me?

Purrs, Merryweather"

Merryweather is waiting for you. Come meet him today, at the Main Campus of Kansas City Pet Project.

Thursday's Purrs: Garfield

"Excuse me. Do look like a cartoon to you? No? I didn't think so."

"Guess I can't help it that the cartoonist guy decided he needed a handsome mancat to model his 'toon after. Just one thing:  how did he know how handsome I'd be, years before I was born?

I mean, I'm only a 2 year old guy and all.  It's a puzzle, I tell ya.
Maybe I'll be able to figure it out after a snack. I hear it's more difficult to think on an empty stomach."

"Got any treats on you?  I'd gladly take one or two off your hands. Hey, I'll bet you have even more at home! What if I head on over there with you and we make it a date?

I promise I'll be very diligent managing the rodent population. As you can see from my resume photo, below, I'm quite adept at it."

"What do you say? Think we should seal the deal over a bowl of cream?

Dutifully yours,
Garfield"

Garfield is waiting for you. Come meet him today, at the Main Campus of Kansas City Pet Project.

Thursday's Purrs: Banksy

"Psst! Hey -- you there. Yeah, you!

Got a crowbar or a hacksaw I can borrow? It's not that the slammer's such a bad place, really it isn't. But I didn't do it! I swear!"

Meet Banksy. We're not sure if he was caught when a dye pack exploded after a bank heist ... or if he was spray painted for other, less friendly reasons.

Regardless, Banksy's a bit blue. And as you can see, he's not talking. (Athough he might be singing ....)

Banksy's a 2 year old brown and white (okay, and blue) cat who's pretty chill, actually, for whatever he's gone through.

(BTW, never ever EVER paint your cat. Paint and dye contain chemicals that can harm any pet.)

Banksy's blue fur will eventually shed, and the staff at KC Pet Project are also trying various pet-safe ways to help him shed his colorful statement. Regardless, he'll be back to his brown-and-white self soon enough.

We're hoping Banksy will get a reduced sentence for good behavior, but if you want to head on over we're sure the shelter will remand him into your custody today.

So what are you waiting for? Bansky's is waiting for you to spring him! He's at the Main Campus of Kansas City Pet Project.

Thursday's Purrs: Inverness

"Hullo! Would you happen to have a bit of time ... and a lap I might borrow? I'm a lovely little 1 year old girl, but I had the terrible misfortune to be born as a minority.

You see, we black fur-people are often discriminated against - just for the color of our fur, can you believe it? And the oddest thing is, we're known to be the most congenial, the sweetest, the most chill kitties out there!"

"You may have noticed my name ~ I may or may not purr with a bit of a Scottish burr (you'll have to come meet me in the fur to find out, a girl's got to have a few secrets, you know?).

But if we hit it off, I promise not to force you to watch Braveheart too many times in one year...sound like a plan?

Did you know Inverness is the town bordering Loch Ness?"

"Wait... is that..is that Nessie I see? Holy cat! Grab your camera, quick! We'll be famous!"

Inverness is waiting for you. Come meet her today, at the Main Campus of Kansas City Pet Project.

Thursday's Purrs: Columbus

"Well hello there!

I'm Columbus, a classic short haired red tabby with the sweetest little puppy dog (uhm, I mean kitty cat) eyes."

"I'm known around here for being a big, cuddly teddy bear who never met a person I didn't like. The volunteers here say I'm all sorts of kind and loving, and it's true! I looooove being petted, and won't say no to the occasional treat."

"One of my favorite things to do around here is get out of my kennel and have a chat with visitors and other volunteers. I just have so much to say!

Just call me Chatty Columbus. (Or not. Hey, who wrote this script anyway? *peers at the lady behind the keyboard*)

Truth is, I am a vocal kinda guy, and I'd love to talk to you.
Come by any time and visit me. I'm the handsome moggie in kennel A2.

Hope to see you soon!
Columbus :)"

Columbus is available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs. Come meet this sweet, sweet boy today!

Thursday's Purrs: Maggie

"Hi there, I’m Maggie.

I’m a three year old tortoiseshell girlcat with loads of luscious brown and black fur, and some killer golden eyes - if I do say so myself."

"And at the tender age of 3.5 years, I already know exactly what I want out of life! You see, I’m a bit of an adventurous girl, and I love hanging around kids.

In fact, my friends at Wayside tell me my purrsonality type is Sidekick, which means I'm a pretty outgoing girl and will be great company around the house. And I just love human attention. I lap it up like one of those drooly dogs I see walking outside here at the shelter.

Psst ...I'm known for giving out mean headbutts to show my affection, too!

And now it's confession time: I am not a dog perso-- uhh, cat.
Other kitties? Sure. Kids? Bring'em on!
Dogs? Nope. Never. Nada. Not my cup o' catnip.

But hey, there are loads of cat people with kids out there - I just know it!

And I know this will be my last stop before I find the people I’ll spend my life with.
I’ll be waiting for you!

Love, Maggie"

Maggie 's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Wednesday's Waif on Thursday

"Meow there! I'm Momma Kitty, aka Zoey. I'm a beautiful white kitty girl with calico markings, gorgeous green eyes and a cute little pink nose. Oh, and be sure to check out my tabby striped tail!"

"I'm front declawed, too. I was adopted from Wayside a couple of years ago but, sadly, a member of my family developed allergies, so they brought me back here, where I have another chance at finding my forever person or people.

There were children in my previous family, and my previous people said I did great with them. I'm very affectionate with a cute little meow. I like to talk, but I'm a good listener, too!

I enjoy attention and will let you know how much with some great head butts and my wonderful purr. At 6 years of age, I am right in my prime. I'm past the silly kitten stuff and ready to be a loyal, loving companion.

My Felinality is Personal Assistant. That means I'm moderately brave in new situations, and I love people. Whatever you are doing, I will right there by your side, ready to pitch in with both paws. You will wonder how you ever got along without me!

Love, Momma Kitty"

This gorgeous girl is available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Wednesday's Waif: Suki

"Well hello there! My name is Suki."

"Aren't I beautiful? Silly question - of course I am!

I am a 4 year old black and while calico girl, and I have been hanging out with the great folks at Wayside since June 23rd. But I'm so looking forward to finding my forever home.

I will need a quiet home without kids. I do love kids but I need a calm environment. You see, I can get stressed out sometimes.

I love attention and really like being petted. Wouldn't you like to? I have black ears and the cutest brown nose.

I'm hanging out right now with my friend Jen, in her office. (She works here, you know.)
And even though I like a quiet home, I still love to explore, and check everything out.  Just ask Jen!

Please come down and see me - soon?

Purrs,
Suki"

Suki is available for adoption today at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Wednesday's Waif on Thursday

"Hi!! Will you be my forever friend? I hope so!"

"My name is Champagne. I am a 2 year old female brown tabby. I was found as a stray and am looking for my loving human to come bring me home.

I have a beautiful gray coat just waiting to be petted and scratched. I especially like to be scratched behind my ears and on my neck.

I can be pretty shy but warm up quickly with your love.

I am a private investigator. You might not even know I am watching you! I will keep your secrets and stay out of trouble.

I love to observe from undercover. Come and help bring me out of my shell - I'll be waiting!!

Just tell the nice people at Wayside that you fell in love with Champagne on Allie's website, and you want to see me ASAP!"

Yep, Little Miss Champagne is one of Allie's Sorority Sisters - at her Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs!

Shelter Sweeties Gino & Lila!

"Hi! My name is Lila, and this is my brother, Gino. And we're new here at Great Plains SPCA in Merriam."

"My brother, Gino, and I were found together and we were brought here. As a petite girl, it's a rough world out there, and I'm just so happy we are safe, together and now we're getting all ready to be adopted by our new forever family.

You see, Gino and I are a team. We've been through some tough times together and you can just tell how much we love each other. When you come visit us you are likely either to see us playing or cuddled up together napping.

He's a great big brother and I just love snuggling with him. You can ask the staff and volunteers about us, but I'm confident all you're going to hear is really great things about us. We're well behaved, very polite and we're very tidy too!

Won't you come visit us soon and see if we can join your family? I sure hope so!
Until then,
Lila"

Aren't they a stunning pair? Gino & Lila are available for adoption today, along with over 700 other worthy kitties, at Great Plains SPCA!

Sunday's Shelter Sweetheart: Thomas

"Hi there! I'm known around here as Tuxedo Thomas. That's because I have such a handsome black and white coat."

"They say my markings are particularly striking. Yep, I'm all dressed up ready to go home with you!

I've had quite an adventure lately. I can't tell you how it happened, but somehow I found myself all alone on the street. Even worse, I had a bad wound on my leg. I was feeling pretty alone and scared as you can imagine.

But then I got really lucky! A Good Samaritan found me and brought me here to Great Plains. They take great care of me here. The great vets here fixed up my leg, and now it's all better!

Plus, I've got a nice warm bed, lots of yummy food, and volunteers who love me! That's the best part! I just love when the volunteers spend time petting me and talking to me and cuddling me!!! I was a little scared when I got here, but I'm starting to see that life is getting so much better for me.

And now they tell me that someday soon my forever person will come and fall in love with me and take me HOME!!! I can't wait!!! I have so much love to share! I just need someone to share it with---forever!!!

Won't you please come down to Great Plains to see if we're a match? I'm easy to spot--wearing my trademark tuxedo and waiting for you!

Love, Tuxedo Thomas"

Thomas is available - along with almost seven hundred(!) of his shelter mates - at the Merriam campus of Great Plains SPCA.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetheart: Patty Cake

"Patty Cake, Patty Cake, kitty cat. Make me some biscuits as fast as you can!"

"Maybe they were thinking of biscuits when they named me, because I'm not quite sure why they called me Patty Cake. But, I think I'll keep my name since it was these nice people who gave it to me.

They found me at a store not too far from the shelter, and my arm was really badly injured. The awesome vets here got me all fixed up though, so all that's left is a funny haircut. Don't worry, it'll grow back!

I'm just a little scared here, because it's so different that what I've been used to (I was already spayed when I got here, so they know I was somebody's beloved kitty cat). But, let me tell you - I love to be petted.

Just go slowly to show me you're a nice human and I will warm right up! So, if you're looking for a gorgeous black tabby or just want to meet the sweetest girl (me!), I'll be waiting for you here at Great Plains SPCA.

Love,
Patty Cake"

Wednesday's Waif: Goldie

"My meow has the Midas touch!

Hello my name is Goldie, and I am truly grateful you took the time to read my profile."

"I am a orange and white medium haired male feline that is looking for their snuggle partner. I am a very sweet, quiet, calm guy who can be a little shy when we first meet, but I will warm up quickly to you! And I looove to play and chase and - oh, did I mention I adore beint petted? I do, truly!

I came here to Wayside because the shelter I was at was running out of space, so I was brought here to find my forever home. I am really hoping that home will be with you!

My felineality is personal assistant and that means that I will always be willing to lend you a helping paw.

My soft fur and one of a kind purr can truly only be appreciated in person, so please come down.

Ask to see the cat with a heart of gold!

Love, Goldie"

Goldie's truly a fantastic boycat - you have to meet him to see how friendly and fun he is.

Goldie's available for adoption today at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetheart: Wilma

"I've heard that us Torties all look like a painting, each with our own distinct paint strokes, or markings. I enjoy hearing those flattering remarks so much!"

"I came to Great Plains SPCA at Merriam when my owner wasn't able to continue caring for me. While I understand that happens sometimes, it was a sad time for me. Fortunately, the staff and volunteers here have been very sweet and caring so I am regaining my confidence.

I truly enjoy human companionship. If you scratch behind my ears and pet my head, I will be your best friend! I really don't demand much - a tidy litterbox, fresh food and water plus some good loving from YOU, and we will be best buddies!

I am only 3 years old, so I am hoping for you to enjoy playing with me too. I like to chase kitty toys or a laser light also. No doubt you will have a fabulous time just watching me be silly.

More than anything, I am ready to be adopted and become part of your family. I would like to cuddle with you, make you feel better after a bad day, and just be your best gal. Are you up to this? If so, please come by and ask to see Wilma."

Wilma is available for adoption today at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA!

Wednesday's Waif: Alice

" Pleased to meet you! My name is Alice, and I'm a very pretty, dainty kitty with white, tan and charcoal calico markings. Oh, and check out my beautiful striped tabby tail!"

"I'm a super friendly girl with a great purr, and I love to make biscuits with my paws. Oh, and I just love having my ears rubbed! I'm a gentle, affectionate girl who loves people and attention.

I came to Wayside from another shelter that was out of space. In just a short time I was adopted from Wayside. My adopter said I'm a great cat, but the problem was, I just didn't get along with the other cat in the home. It seems I can be a little aggressive toward other kitties, so it would be best if I'm the only feline in the family.

My previous person said I'm a talkative, playful, affectionate lap cat who is "really sweet," "adjusts quickly to new environments" and "enjoys being around people." I also got an A-plus for using the litter box.

The Felineality testers here at Wayside say I'm a Personal Assistant. That means I'm a moderately brave cat who loves being around people. Whatever you're doing around the house, I will be right there, ready to lend a delicate paw.

If you're looking to add some fun, beauty and love to your life, come to Wayside and meet me, Alice!

Love, Alice"

Alice is available today at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs!

Wednesday's Waif: Alimay

"Hi guys! I have a riddle for you:
Who's black and white and cute all over?

Why me, Alimay!"

"I'm an adorable shorhaired kitty with beautiful golden eyes and one of the cutest kitty noses ever -- it's pink and black.

My previous person brought me to Wayside because I was too much responsibility. I lived with dogs in my previous home and enjoyed playing with them, so I might be a good fit for a family with a dog, as long as it doesn't play too rough with me.

Here at Wayside, I'm known as a sweet kitty who is shy at first but enjoys being petted.
I'm playful, too. My favorite toys are anything I can chase or pounce at.

Would you like to play with me? If you're looking for a cute, sweet, fun kitty, come to Wayside and ask for me!

Love,
Alimay"

Alimay is available for adoption today at our Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Wednesday's Waif...on Friday

Strange things happen when your computer goes down.
Fridays turn into Wednesdays, for instance!

Although we're still supervising our mom's repair of the computer, we didn't want our PC troubles to get in the way of telling you about this big lug of a boycat.

So this week, in our own little corner of the blogosphere, Friday is Wednesday.
And here's Wednesday's Waif:
Bear Cat.

"Hi guys! I have a riddle for you:

What is cute, fluffy, and soft all over?

The answer is me: Bear Cat!

I am a white and grey male kitty who is looking for his forever home. I am a very loving, sweet, fun guy who happens to also be FIV positive.

I know that might sound a little scary, but I assure you I am guy who plans to be with you for a while. FIV is a immunesurpressive disease, but with your love and caring I will live to be a very happy, old man!

I came here to Wayside because I was found as a stray, and the caring, loving person who found me knew that everyone deserves a home so they brought me here to Wayside so I could find my forever home, and my forever buddy.

My felineality is personal assistant, which means that I will always be hanging around. I love being there to help you with whatever you need. I am a guy who will love playtime, snuggle time - and shoot, any time in between - as long as we are together!

The vet tech here tells people I'm smart, affectionate and independent. And I loooooooooove head-butts.

"Me, givin' sum BearCat LUV." ~ Bear Cat

And I hate seeing visitors go. I'm just that kind of a sociable guy.

I would love the chance to meet you, so please come down. Just ask for the sweet, loving big ol' lug of a mancat named Bear Cat."

Sunday's Shelter Sweetheart: Sully

"Hello there! I'm Sully!

Yeah, like the big, blue character in Monsters, Inc.

Well, no, of course I'm not blue! But I am a little bit like that Sully. You see, when I first got here to Great Plains, I thought my job was to scare everybody, just like the blue Sully!

So I was just a little bit swatty and not very nice sometimes. Really though, you can't blame me. I came from a home where there were just way, way too many cats. So I never got all the love and attention I really needed and wanted.

And nobody ever showed me just how wonderful you humans can be. Then I met my foster mommy!

And just like when Sully met Boo in the movie, I learned how super awesome people really are! She was so kind and patient with me, and she taught me all about love. Now, instead of scaring people, I'm the top lover around here!"

"I just LOVE everybody!!!

I'm very affectionate, and I especially love to be held and snuggle. (You can see me snuggling with my foster mommy if you play my video, below.)

I not only love people, but I like being around other kitty cats, too. And I've even spent some time with some doggies who were nice to me, and I did just fine with them, as well.

Aside from snuggling, I also love to play, especially if you have some string toys. I sure hope you like to play with string toys, too. We could have some great games together!

But what I love most of all is to spend my time lounging and cuddling with humans. Yep, just like the big, blue Sully, I've learned how loving and kind you all are, and I don't ever want to scare you again.

Won't you please come down to Great Plains today and say hi? Then we can start living our very own "happily ever after" together.

All my love, Sully"

Sully - the lover, not the monster - is available at the Independence Campus of Great Plains SPCA.

Wednesday's Waif: Belinda

"Meowlo, my future loving forever family!

My name is Belinda, and I am so grateful that you took the time to read my profile. I am a female black and tan tabby kitty that is a sweet as she is beautiful!"

"I am a very affectionate, playful lady who was found as a stray, and the amazing people who found me knew that Wayside was the place for me to find my forever home.

Though my time here has been wonderful I am ready to have my own place with my own loving family, and I am hoping that family and home will be with you! I love to give and show attention but I can get so overjoyed when petted that I would be a good fit in a home with only adults.

My felineality is executive; which means that I am very busy kitty! I will explore every room and closet to make sure everything is in it's place, then I will make sure the birds out the window are behaving themselves.

Even though checking to make everything is okay will be a big job I will always have time to fit in nap time and snuggle time! Since I am a explorer by nature I do like to keep my paws on the ground, and prefer not to be picked up and held.

I would love the chance to meet you so please come down.

If you are looking for a companion that is curious, talkative, playful, sweet, and a huge lap and shoulder cat then we are soul mates!

Love, Belinda"

Belinda is available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetheart: the Totally FAB #Shay!

"Hi, I'm Shay, and I'm sure hoping my forever purr-son will come and fall in love with me real soon.

You see I've been at Great Plains for a year, and frankly I don't understand what's taking so long for one of you humans to see what a fabulous find I am!"

"I'm four, frisky and fun.

I'm also a fashionista - just look at how I'm rocking my pretty teal collar!

The staff and volunteers here fell for me a long time ago. They know what a happy, frisky, energetic girl I am. Though I'm a petite little girl, I've got a big, big purr-sonality and a huge heart of gold!!! I LOVE to play!!!

I love all kinds of toys, but especially wand toys with feathers on the end of a string! You should see how fast I can run and how high I can jump to "catch the birdie".

And once I've had a chance to work off some of that energy, I'm up for some petting and a quick cuddle or two. Now, if you're looking for a calm, quiet kitty who'll sit on your lap all day, I'm not your girl. But if you're looking for a kitty who's active and playful and in search of the next adventure, I'm the one!

I have to admit that all this energy can be a bit hard for me to control sometimes. I can start playing kind of rough, or can act like a hissy little missy if I'm overstimulated. Maybe a new kitty comes along and he doesn't give me the proper respect.

A lady such as myself holds good manners in high regard, so I might have to give him a gentle correction such as hiss or wave my paw at him. I'm not really bossy: I prefer to think of it as having leadership qualities. Somebody's got to be in charge here, and I think it should be moi. I'm doing much better all the time.

My friends think if I get into a home where I feel safe and have plenty of outlets for my energy and curiosity, I'll do just fine. If you come down to the shelter, you'll probably find me out running around the cattery stirring up excitement. Hey, it's my job and I'm very good at it!

What do you say? Are you up for a game of catch the birdie?
How about a lifetime of fun and games?
And love?

Then I'm just waiting for you!!!

TaTa for Now, (oh and you have GOT to see my FAB, totally FAB video!!)
Shay"

Shay is totes cray about a new fam! Are you the one?

She's at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA!
