"Hullo! Would you happen to have a bit of time ... and a lap I might borrow?
I'm a lovely little 1 year old girl, but I had the terrible misfortune to be born as a minority.
You see, we black fur-people are often discriminated against - just for the color of our fur, can you believe it?
And the oddest thing is, we're known to be the most congenial, the sweetest, the most chill kitties out there!"
"You may have noticed my name ~ I may or may not purr with a bit of a Scottish burr (you'll have to come meet me in the fur to find out, a girl's got to have a few secrets, you know?).
But if we hit it off, I promise not to force you to watch Braveheart too many times in one year...sound like a plan?
Did you know Inverness is the town bordering Loch Ness?"
"Wait... is that..is that Nessie I see? Holy cat! Grab your camera, quick! We'll be famous!"
Inverness is waiting for you. Come meet her today, at the Main Campus of Kansas City Pet Project.

Thursday's Purrs: Pip
"Looking for a companion with a bit of moxie? Look no further!
I'm an outgoing sort of girl, if I do say so myself. I've been told I have a rather *ahem* "bold" personality. But that's a good thing ... right? I think it's good to have an opinion about things, don't you?
No waffling around the issues for me, no sir! For instance, I'll tell you straight out when I want company.
(Okay, confession time: I am a real people pers-- ahh, um, cat. I love it when I'm the center of your attention!
Not that I'm, like, clingy or anything. A girl needs her down time too - and I'll let you know that as well.)
Being a girlcat of impeccable taste, I love staying well-coiffed.
(You don't mind multitasking during this interview, do you? Could you grab that brush over there and ...?)
Ooooh yessss. I do love a good brushing session!
I'm pretty accomplished at playing coy, too. (see Exhibit A, below)
You do know that black goes with everything in your wardrobe, right?
Might you be interested in a girl with loads of personality and excellent fashion sense?
If so, come on out - let's chat!
Housepanther purrs,
Pip"

Thursday's Purrs: Scotty
"Thanks for reading about me! My name is Scotty, and I’m a black kitty with a very sleek and silky coat. I've been told I have amazing golden eyes, too. What do you think?
I’m a playful, affectionate and loving boy who enjoys sitting beside you or even on your lap. I've lived with other cats and got along with them okay, but I really adore human attention, so if it's all the same to you, I might really enjoy being an only cat. And I have to admit, I think I'd also rather be in a home with no young children.
You see, I can be a little shy at first, and those mini humans can be a bit intimidating!
For that special someone, though - I promise, I warm up quickly. I have a lot of love to give and can hardly wait to find my purrfect match to give it all to!"
"Also, I'm front-declawed which means I need to be an indoors-only kind of guy since one of my main forms of protection has now been removed. But hey, I'm totally down with protecting the inside of your home. I have mad skillz in that area!
Want to come by and see if we're meant to be?
Just ask for short, dark and handsome.
They'll know it's me - Scotty!"
Scotty's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Thursday's Purrs: Glasses
"Hello, I’m Glasses! Okay, yeah, I know that’s a silly name for a cat, but sometimes we just have to humor the humans, you know?
I am a super-sweet, super-loving, super-curious and super-courageous kitty. Seriously -- I’m just all around super! Well, at least that’s what the people around here keep telling me. Not that I'm letting it go to my head or anything - honest.
Here, let me take a selfie real quick so we can chat face to face.
(uh, wait -- is THAT the camera button? *squint* I think so ....)"
SNAP! FLASH!
"Oh dear, is it a bit out of focus? I can't tell ....
You might have noticed that I have some severe vision problems caused by cataracts. And I’ve got a bit of a tilty head, too. But I don’t let either of those things slow me down! No way! I’ve got far too much to do, place to go, people to — uhh — see. Sorta.
And my head tilt just makes me look even cuter, don’t you think?
Soooo .... Wanna know what I'm just SO BUSY doing? Well, just about everything!
First, I love to make new friends and love on people. I love to be petted and I especially love to be held. I’ll put my arms right around you and purr, purr, purr the day away.
And I love to explore! That’s right, even with my limited sight, I’m no fraidy cat, no way, no how.
I’m ready to get out and explore the world. I love new adventure!
Of course, because of my eyesight, I’ll need to be an indoor only cat — unless you are with me.
Hey, now wouldn't that just be totally cool to go outside on a harness and explore the world with you?
Wouldn’t you like to try? I'm getting so excited just thinking about it!
Please come down to Kansas City Pet Project to meet me. I promise, you’ll never regret making a new friend as special as I am.
Purrs, headbutts and tons of love,
Glasse"
(Pee Ess, feel free to rename me. Just meowin'. *giggle*)

LATE EDITION Thursday's Purrs: Satin
"So pleased to meet you! My name is Satin.
Thanks for reading about me! My name is perfect for me because I'm covered in soft, satiny black fur. I came to Wayside as a stray. Can you believe someone let a sweet, pretty girl like me get away?"
"I'm a friendly, confident cat who likes to play. But even more than playing, I love to be loved on. The toys captivate me for a while, but then I'm right back to you for more pets and headbutts. At 8 years of age, I'm right in my prime, ready to be a loving, loyal, purrfect companion. "
"When I had my Felineality test here at Wayside, they said I'm a Personal Assistant. That means I'm moderately brave in new situations, and I love nothing more in the world than spending time with my favorite person or people, helping out in any way I can.
You will wonder how you got along without me!
(PSST: Hurry on down! Wayside's still open for another 30 minutes!!)
Love, Satin"
Satin's available today at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Thursday's Purrs: Rizzo
"So pleased to meet you! My name is Rizzo."
"As you can see, I'm a stunning shorthaired black kitty with a spot of white on my throat. I have amazing eyes, don't you think? They can look gold or green, depending on the light."
"I was found as a stray, and recently had kittens. I took care of my babies, and now it's my turn to be somebody's baby. I'm a super sweet, dainty, petite girl who enjoys petting and attention. I will reward you with some velvety headbutts to your hand.
I do tend to be pretty shy at first, but if you speak to me softly and pet me gently, I will warm up quickly. If you're looking for a super sweet, beautiful kitty girl to love, please hurry to Wayside and ask for me, Rizzo!
Love, Rizzo"

"hey there!
The name's Vladimir. You know, as in Vladimir Purr-tin ... Vlad the (not so) Bad. Keep 'em coming, guys! Yeah, I've heard 'em all, MOL!"
"I'm a handsome 3 year old mancat (if I do say so myself), just hanging out here at Great Plains waiting for my forever human to come by and be bowled over by my irresistible charm.
Did you know black cats are considered less adoptable? *horrified look* Was it something I said?!?!?
I mean, seriously, I'm an easy going, affable kinda fellow, who wouild love to be your companion for life.
And research says that we housepanthers are scientifically known to be more congenial. Did you know that?
Science doesn't lie. Just ask my purr machine if it isn't a true thang.
Whatcha waiting for?
Come on down and let's get to know one another!
Eager purrs,
Vlad"

Thursday Purrs: Wayside's Saber
***
"Pleased to meet you!
I'm Saber, a luxurious, long-haired, dark chocolate colored kitty with a very soft, sweet meow. I am front-declawed, so I must have been someone's pet before. However, I was brought to Wayside because a nice man found me as a stray, but could not keep me."
"He says I'm a wonderful cat who got along well with his children. So, I might be a good fit for a family with kids.
I can be shy at first, but I warm up quickly. When I had my Felineality assessment here at Wayside, they told me I'm a Personal Assistant. That means I'm moderately brave in new situations, and I love people."

Could it be you?
Love,
Saber"

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Deanna
"Hello there, human! I'm Deanna. I came to Great Plains as a rescue with 7 (SEVEN!!) newborn babies.
Want to know what I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving season?
I got to stay in a lovely foster home while my kids grew big enough to be adopted. And despite all of them being black kitties like me (it's tough for us to find homes, you know), they were all adopted within days.
Now it's my turn to find a forever home."
"I'm a very friendly girl who loves meeting new people. I'm very affectionate and love to be petted. I'm still just a young thing myself, which means I also love to play. Oh, and I'm sure you've noticed -- well, I'm a bit of a looker, if I do say so myself.
How about coming over to meet me? We can be home in time for Thanksgiving!"
"Being around people is where I'm meant to be and I'd love to find a forever home today. The people here are nice and take good care of us, but it's just not the same as a real home.
I'm just an all around fun and interesting lady.....and beautiful to boot! What more could you ask for?
Come visit me soon!
Purrs,
Deanna"
Deanna is available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA, today.

"Hi people! I'm Twix.
And I loooooooooove to cuddle. Betcha you couldn't tell, could you?"
"Everyone here says I'm a handsome boy with mesmerizing green eyes. Anyone know what mesmerizing means? Hey! What say I come home with you and I can paw my way through your dictionary and find out!"
"ooh wow, now I'm all excited and stuff!
Ready to go? I can be packed in a jiff - I just have my wand toy and a mousie or two.
Here, let me go grab them and we can be off!
Wow, this'll be the most excitement I've had in all my whole four months!!!

Wednesday's Waif: Everest
"Hi, I'm Everest! I was brought to Wayside because my last owner couldn't take care of me anymore, but that's okay! I've been given another chance at the life I deserve and I've been having a blast as a Waif!"
"Even though being at Wayside is so much fun, I'm ready to find my new family and go to my forever home. As you can see in my photos, I'm a gorgeous feline with a soft, fluffy coat you'll love to cuddle with.
My big, beautiful eyes are sure to catch your attention.
I'm a little shy and timid at first but once I'm more comfortable with you I'm as sweet as can be. Since I can get a little scared in busy or new situations, I need a home with children over the age of 5.
I love playing with my toy mouse and I'll be a great companion to sit back and relax with.
Do I sound like the perfect fit for your family?
If so, come to Wayside Waifs soon, I'd love to meet you!

Wednesday's Waif: Samantha
"Did you know Monday was Black Cat Appreciation Day? *squeee!*
That means this week is Black Cat Appreciation Week! My week!
Oooooh, I sooooo hope this will be my week - wouldn't it be awesome if I found my forever home today, or tomorrow, or the day after?"
"Do you need a fearless sidekick who's not afraid to take down the
fluffiest toy mouse or tackle the tickliest feather wand? That's me!
I'm Samantha, and I want to be your gal Friday, Saturday, and the whole
rest of the week. I love being petted almost as much as I love to play.
What happened to my ear, you ask? Well, let's just say the sidekick life can be dangerous sometimes. Don't worry, though. I can still hear you just fine when you tell me what a gorgeous girl I am.
If you're
looking for a face with character, you've found your match. Oh and - rumor has it that I love to have my face scratched: check scritches are the BEST! And please, won't you join me down here on the floor so I can wind myself around your legs and hang out?
Oooh, I just can't wait to meet you!
Purrs,
Samantha"

Shelter Sweetie: Ebony's #SundaySelfie
"Oh, hi there! My name is Ebony, and I probably don't need to tell you how I earned my name. But what you can't tell from my pictures is what a friendly, snuggly guy I am. I love everybody I meet!"
"When you come to visit me at the shelter (you are coming, right?) you just may find me on greeter patrol, welcoming all the visitors. Or I may be on the computer "helping" the staff do their work. You see, I just love hanging out with people SO much. Everyone who visits says what a super cool and friendly dude I am.
I may be a big guy, but I'm definitely still a kitten at heart and just want to be in your lap or cozied up next to you in bed. When it's lap time and you get going with the scritches.....watch out! It's been said my purr motor is so loud you may need ear protection! I'm really smart too! I was the star pupil in a training class here at the shelter."
"I recently spent some time with a foster family. My foster mom loves me soooooo much (she says I'm her boyfriend) and she desperately wanted to make me a permanent part of her family, but it just wasn't meant to be. You see, there were already some other kitties there and I'm just NOT willing to share my human(s). I want to be with you all the time and I don't want anyone getting in my way.
So, besides the no-other-felines thing, the only thing you need to know about me is that I have to follow a specific diet. I've had a history of digestion issues and they're finally all resolved now! Whew! It's no big deal.....I just need to eat a controlled amount of a specific food and only limited treats. The staff here can tell you all the details about that. I've already lost some weight on this diet and as you can probably see, that's not a bad thing!
I really don't understand why I'm still here at the shelter. My soft, shiny black coat together with my emerald green eyes makes me quite the looker, or so I am told. I guess my perfect family just hasn't made it down here yet. Could it be you? Won't you come down and meet me today! I can't wait to be part of a family again....
Purrs,
Ebony"
Ebony has been waiting FAR too long for his forever family. Let's get this handsome guys adopted, what say?

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Sparkle!
"Hi there! Folks around here call me Miss Sparkles, but you can just call me Sparkle. I think I got that name because of the sparkling little white locket on my chest. It sets me apart and makes me a little more special, don't you think?"
"I also hear that I might have a bit to live up to, having been named for such a Grand Star in the Feline Blogging World! I'll do everything I can to live up to the name, I promise!
I'm a friendly girl who loves meeting new people and I'm just looking for a new family to hang with. My previous family and I got along great! We were together for years. There were kids and a dog and we were as happy as could be.
But then they got a new dog and it scared me. A lot. So it was decided it would be in my best interest to look for a new place that wasn't so scary for me."
"Things have been looking brighter every day since I arrived here at Great Plains! I'm fairly laid back and would love to spend some time lounging with you. I love, love, love getting pets!
I don't really like other kitties too much so I would be happiest in a home where I can be the recipient of ALLLLL your love and affection. It's not too much to ask, wouldn't you agree? Come on down and say hi to me today.
Can't wait to meet you!

A Very Special Wednesday's Waif on Friday
"Hi, my name is Mac!
I bet you noticed my darling picture and my sparkly eyes. I am an adorable, sweet, affectionate kitten who just wants to be loved and cared for.
It seems so simple, I know, but I've already experienced sadness and stress in my young life, so I don't take anything for granted. One thing is for sure...if you decide to rescue me and make me part of your family, I will be grateful to you every single day for the rest of my life."
"When I first came to Wayside as a baby, I was in awful shape. I was so thin and dehydrated and fragile. My foster mom realized that I needed extra love in my life, so she took me home with her and has been nurturing me into the handsome boy you see today.
Foster Mom is also a veterinarian, so besides teaching me about life as a family cat, she has helped me to learn to deal with my health issues. They don't really hold me back, and they are just something in life I have to deal with, but I want you to be aware of them all the same. I hope you're not the kind of person who will turn away when you find out I'm not perfect.
It was just bad luck, I guess, that I was born with a rare and fragile skin condition."
"My skin doesn't have the collagen, or protein, that it needs to stay strong and resilient. Because of this, I am prone to painful sores when my skin is torn or damaged.
While this condition is not curable, my skin has healed beautifully and I am expected to live a good life as long as my family helps keep me protected from future trauma. I will just need a little extra tender loving care in my life, to keep me happy, healthy, and comfortable. I hope you don't mind giving that to me!
I need to be an indoor only cat. I should never be held by the scruff of my neck, even during vet visits."
"But by all means, you can pet me, pick me up, and definitely play with me! I feel and act like a normal kitten these days, so I hope you will give me lots of gentle love and attention.
But I hope you will also be willing to take me to the vet in the event you notice any future skin issues, since they are painful for me.
I am super cuddly and a love bug! I love curling up on a nice warm lap. And just like a typical kitten, I also love playing with a variety of cat toys, but my favorites are squeaky mice and cat dancers.
If you think you have room in your heart and the right type of environment for me, I would love to meet you and show you my delightful personality and zest for life!
Love, Mac"

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Gino
"Hi there, I'm Gino and so glad to meet you.
As you can tell from viewing my picture, I'm a very handsome boy with medium to long black, luxurious fur."
"I am a very responsible boy, in that I maintain my coat quite well myself, but would love a little help now and then from a human - that's YOU!
You see, brushing is more than just keeping my coat in tip top shape, it's a little bit of loving at the same time. And usually we can have a very nice discussion during this time as well.
I was adopted from Great Plains a while back with my sister. We got along great while we were here, always cuddling and playing together.
But when we got to our furrever home, I became jealous whenever Lila got attention and I didn't. So it may be best if I go to a home where I can be king of the castle and get all the attention.
I'm very mild mannered, well behaved, and love to play. I think I'd make a fine addition to your family, don't you?
Please come visit me soon.
I'm hoping for a true forever home each and every day.
Purrs,
Gino"

Wednesday's Waif: Midnight Train
"Choo-choo! Hi, I'm Midnight Train. Isn't that a different and unique name? I wonder if they chose it for me because of my throaty purr. You think?"
"I'm a dainty, velvety medium-haired black kitty with the most amazing, soulful golden eyes. I was transferred to Wayside from another shelter that was out of space.
I'm shy at first, but if you speak to me softly and pet me gently, we will be best friends in no time! Gently stroking my back helps me relax, and I love it.
I will also give some soft, velvety headbutts to your hand. You might have noticed that I'm 8 years old, but that is just middle age for a cat. If you take good care of me, we can expect to have many good years together."
"I believe in second chances, and I hope there's someone out there reading this who does, too. Come to Wayside and meet me, and maybe we will choo-choo-choose each other!
Love,
Miss MT"
