"Looking for a companion with a bit of moxie? Look no further!
I'm an outgoing sort of girl, if I do say so myself. I've been told I have a rather *ahem* "bold" personality. But that's a good thing ... right? I think it's good to have an opinion about things, don't you?
No waffling around the issues for me, no sir! For instance, I'll tell you straight out when I want company.
(Okay, confession time: I am a real people pers-- ahh, um, cat. I love it when I'm the center of your attention!
Not that I'm, like, clingy or anything. A girl needs her down time too - and I'll let you know that as well.)
Being a girlcat of impeccable taste, I love staying well-coiffed.
(You don't mind multitasking during this interview, do you? Could you grab that brush over there and ...?)
Ooooh yessss. I do love a good brushing session!
I'm pretty accomplished at playing coy, too. (see Exhibit A, below)
You do know that black goes with everything in your wardrobe, right?
Might you be interested in a girl with loads of personality and excellent fashion sense?
If so, come on out - let's chat!
Housepanther purrs,
Pip"
Pip's available at the Main Campus of KC Pet Project. Come meet her today!
"Hullo, could I interest you in some quality cuddling? I'm an expert at it, if I do say so myself.
I'm also an excellent listener and promise to hang on your every word (see photo below for Exhibit A: my 'engaged and concerned' expression)."
"My previous companion, who I was with from kittenhood, can vouch for me on this! I'd still be with her if she hadn't had to move to another country. *sad sigh*
I have excellent couch potato skills, too, and would love nothing more than to hang out while you watch your favorite shows. I'll even root for the home team (sedately, of course).
If you're into gaming, I'd totally keep score for you. Or be your most ardent Guitar Hero fan! I'm totally into that, since that came out the same year I was born (although I must admit a preference for the Hello Kitty games that came out in 2005, too).
Won't you come out and meet me soon? I'm as sweet as can be - as you can see in my video.
Every girlcat needs a little love in her life, and I'm oh-so-ready for that in mine!'
Hopeful purrs,
Baby "
Baby's available at the Main Campus of KC Pet Project. Come meet this sweet, sweet girl today!
"Hello! My name is Leetha, and I'm a tiny, longhaired tuxedo cat who looooves attention!
(psst: I've been known to let people know if I'm being overlooked, too)
I do have a confession: even though it might be a bit undignified, I do love me some belly-rubbing action.
Bird TV is my fave pastime. What's yours?
"I've been waiting for my humans for a very long time. In fact, I'm one of the longest residents here at KC Pet Project. I fear it might be because I have a minor kidney problem that requires I eat a special diet.
I hope that doesn't scare people off! It's not that big a deal, honest!
Although I'm 14, I still have a lot of love to give, and many years left
to give them in. I would love to spend them with you - won't you come
meet me?
Purrs,
Leetha"
Leetha's available at the Main Campus of KC Pet Project. Come meet her today!
We first introduced you to Blossom last November. This marmalade girl is still looking for her forever family. Won't you please share?
***
"Hullo folks, I'm Blossom, the rare orange girlcat! Did you know most orange moggies are of the male persuasion?
Although some humans may call me a bit ornery, I'm really a very sweet and fun-loving girl -- with a healthy side of catitude.
My loves are playing, sun bathing and long afternoon naps.
What are yours?
I love to be with people, and let me tell you, those head and neck scritches totally rock!"
"My dislikes are being picked up and taking my medicine, (well, duh, what kitty would like that, I ask you?).
I've been told I need the stuff twice a day, though, for a delicate tummy.
"I've been called a 'chatty cathy' (whatver THAT is). I am pretty talkative and would love to chat you up if you're willing to chat.
I'm an Independent Girlcat of Means, and I take my role of House Investigator very seriously.
When not working, I do love a good round of Red Dot.
Being a Proper Ladycat and all, I'm a diligent kitty post scratcher -- and I never scratch the furniture."
"I get along well with dogs, but prefer to be the only cat of the house.
In exchange for your love, I promise cuddle up with you at night and be a loyal companion. I desperately want a home of my own and a human who adores me and accepts me for who I am. (Which if you ask my foster parents, is a pretty darn great!)
Won't you come meet me and see how we get along? I'll bet we'd get on famously!
"Could I interest you in a steady companion? Someone calm and confident, with a lot of love to give?
My name is Lilly, and I’m in the market for a human."
"I love nothing more than warm laps and great conversation. I'm the kind of cat you'd love hanging out with after the kids have gone to bed and you're looking to kick back and relax.
It's true, I don't mind kids - not one bit. I know that's kind of rare in a feline, so I thought I'd mention that straight out."
"My Felineality (feline personality)is Sidekick. That means I’m moderately brave in new situations and love nothing more in life than just hanging out with my favorite person or people, basking in a mutual lovefest.
Sound good to you?
Then come on out to Wayside and let's hook up!
Purrs,
Lilly"
Lilly's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.
"Would you do me a huge favor? Go cuddle up next to your human for me, will you?
(um, and if you're a human, give your furry family a squeeze or two)
I recently learned the hard way how life can change dramatically in the blink of an eye. You see, I lost everything - EVERYTHING - in a fire. My humans and I are now homeless."
"No cat expects to be 16 years old and suddenly end up in a kennel,
particularly not when he has spent every one of those 16 years sleeping
next to his people in their bed. But here I am.
My family isn't sure how things will turn out or what their future holds, so they thought it might be better if some kind human would take me into their home. You know, instead of any more traumatic upheavals while things are so up in the air.
Besides, I didn't come out completely unscathed. I suffered some burns on my paws, and some smoke inhalation. No worries -- I've healed well, and I've even settled in well, here at the shelter. But I'd sure love a cozy home instead. I miss cuddling with my humans every evening."
"I'm told I look and act much younger than my age, and I make friends easily.
Won't you please come in and see if we might make a good team?
"Now, don't let that serious expression fool you. (They told me I needed to look professional for the camera - go figure!)
I'm a lot more outgoing than it looks! In fact, I love nothing more than to settle in for a good, long cozy chat. I tend to get rather engaged too. I'll hang onto your every word, and even offer my opinion from time to time. Oh yes, nothing beats a healthy discussion, don't you agree?
Maybe it's because I'm such a people, uhh, person. People cat? People purrson? However you say it, I'm very people-focused!"
"I've heard the folks around here say I'm a big girl with a big personality to match. Wait. I'm not so sure I like the connotation of 'big girl' .... Does that camera lens make me look fat? Be honest, now.
As you may have noticed, I'm a fabulous tortoiseshell tabby with gorgeous green eyes. I'm front-declawed, so I'd really rather stay indoors exclusively, if it's all the same to you.
I’m brave and adventurous, confident and cheerful. And I love the company of people. To be honest, I'm the life of the party - and I give fab headbutts. Seriously, you need to experience one for yourself!
I'm so looking forward to meeting you!
Purrs, chirps and headbutts,
Molly"
Molly's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.
"Are you looking for a sophisicat? Look no further, you've found me - Milo!
I’m well groomed, erudite and my manners are absolutely impeccable.
I always use my litter box (of course). I’m a gentleman through and through."
"I’m affectionate, playful, and friendly to all—men, women and children. I’ve been accused of being a bit of a couch potato, but really I’d much prefer a 'lap potato' — I love to be held.
I’m particularly skilled at snuggling and purring. In fact, I tend do quite a bit of both—usually at the same time!
I’m also an excellent conversationalist. I like to keep a good chat going, and am always willing to share my worldly experience with you.
Above all, I’m a true, loyal and loving companion. And who doesn’t need one of those?"
"Now, you may ask how a purrfect gentleman like me ended up in a shelter at my age (ahem ... 13. Not that 13’s old, mind you).
Well, I originally lived with an elderly person who placed me with friends when living arrangements had to change. The friends were quite good to me, but were just not ready to care for a cat with diabetes."
"Yes, I am diabetic. Something that’s pretty common in cats and really not a big deal in my book. Right now, my diabetes is mild and controlled by diet alone! I eat a cat food formulated for diabetics - and that's it! Someday, I may need to go onto insulin, but I’m a very gentle and well-mannered guy and giving me an injection wouldn’t be any problem at all.
Most diabetic kitties do quite well, and I expect to live a long, happy, healthy life just like any other cat.
So, if you think a gent like me might make your family complete, won’t you please come down to Kansas City Pet Project’s main shelter and say hello? I’d be most honored to make your acquaintance, and absolutely thrilled to share my life and love with you.
I got my very own lap for the holidays - and it was amaaazing.
But then I ended up back on the streets. I found my way back to the folks at KCPP and they gave me a nice warm place to hang out until I find my true, keeper lap.
Second time's the charm - right?
Thoughts? Ideas? The wording for ads like these is so critical, I think - don't you?"
"Let me assure you - I know all about laps. You could even say I'm a bit of a lap connoisseur!
The folks around here say I'm quite the social cat. If you come near my kennel, I'll be right there, waiting to see if you are going to open the door. I'm exceedingly pettable, if I do say so myself, and I have incredibly soft fur. If you'll come over to visit, just take a seat so I can test drive your lap, please?
I don't ask for much in a forever home, just people who will always love me (that's the "forever" in fovere home, you know?).
And of course someone who will let me sit in their lap. (no other kitties, please - I am kind of selfish of your time that way. *embarrassed look*)
And at 11 years young, I've left all that silly kitten-headed nonsense (like ricocheting off your forehead at 4 in the morning) behind me, too. Isn't that a win-win?
Winter's here! Wouldn't you like full-time access to a gorgeous lap-warmer like myself?
Purrs and head-butts,
Lexy"
Lexy was adopted shortly after her post in October, but recently she was returned to the shelter by a Good Samaritan who found her wandering alone in the neighborhood.
We are so grateful she found her way back to the safety of the shelter and the people who love her.
Since returning to the shelter, she has found her voice and has been regaling staff and volunteers nonstop with stories of her adventures. While they haven't quite figured out exactly what it all means, they are pretty sure it includes how glad she is to be safe again and to see all her old friends.
She's also been demanding nonstop love, attention and treats (and getting them!).
This sweet girl deserves the very best of homes, and finally, at long last, a warm, loving lap all her own. Won't you please share to help us make that happen for her as soon as possible?
"Hullo, nice to meet you. My name's Meeko. Are you looking for someone to keep you warm as the weather gets colder? Well then, I'm the guy for you!
I'm not one to brag or anything, but a 12 year old mancat like myself likes to cut straight to the point. Did you know I'm a favorite with the ladies over at Wayside?
Margaret calls me Meeko the Magnificent. And Honor gets me, she really gets me. She says I'm a sweet lovebug and a real lapcat (I have to admit I love me some cuddles, I do!)."
I call this my "hellooo ladies" expression
"I'm a total people person, in case you couldn't guess. I'll love hanging around you. And I might be a mature mancat but you should see my playful side. No ... really ... take a look. Scroll down to the video and check out my moves. That headtilt is my signature move, if I do say so myself.
Oh, there is one more little thing. No big deal, really. I'm FIV positive, but that just means that my immune system is somewhat compromised, so it's extra important that I have an indoors-only lifestyle, good food and regular veterinary care.
But hey, those are things a good adopter would give any cat, right?
Check out my smooth moves below, and then come on over to Wayside so we can get started on all that snuggling, what say?
Purrs,
Meeko"
This adorable, fun, absolute sweetheart is available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.
"Hello, and thanks for taking a moment to hear my story.
My name is Penny. I'm a torbie girl (that's a tortoiseshell/tabby combination) and folks say I got my name from the beautiful coppery spots in my luxurious coat.
I came to Wayside because my previous person passed away.
It's sad, and a bit daunting, to be honest -- starting over at the age of 10. But that's just middle age for a cat."
"I'm thankful to have a second chance to start a wonderful new life with a very special someone. I do tend to be shy at first, but if you approach slowly and gently, I warm up pretty quickly. And even though I am shy and cautious, I do love people very much.
It might take some time to get to know me, but trust me, I am worth it. I'm really a big cuddle bug at heart, and would love to snuggle next to you. I love being brushed, and will purr like a little motor boat for you!"
"I'd love to go to a home with a nice window that will let me observe all of the interesting things that the outdoors has to offer. (I've been known to binge-watch the BirdTv channel here at Wayside *embarrassed look*)
I don't mind being picked up sometimes and i have also done well coexisting with other feline friends. Let's have our first conversation today, at Wayside!?
Love, Penny"
Penny's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.
"Pleased to meet you! I'm Darla, a very pretty torbie (tabby/tortoiseshell) girl with just about the most gorgeous green eyes you've ever seen.
I was surrendered to Wayside because someone in my previous family had allergies. I also came to Wayside with my previous housemate, Dixie. We can be adopted together or separately. As you can imagine, I like other cats (Dixie's one, after all!)."
"I lived with dogs and kids in my old home, too, and co-existed with them, sort of. My previous family describes me as an independent cat who loves to cuddle at night.
Here at Wayside, people say I'm a shy kitty who does enjoy attention once I feel comfortable. I prefer people who are calm and patient. So I probably would be happier in a home that's more like a library than a carnival.
At age 8 I'm right in my prime, ready to be a loving, loyal, steadfast companion. I can't wait to meet you!
Love, Darla"
Darla's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.
"Hello out there! Can anyone help me with my classified ad submission? (no opposable thumbs and all, you know)
Or maybe I should just ask for one lap that would be made available to me - a lot of the time.
Thoughts? Ideas? The wording for ads like these is so critical, I think - don't you?"
"I may have been classified as a 'stray' when I first came here, but let me assure you - I know all about laps.

Winter's coming! Wouldn't you like access to a gorgeous lap-warmer like myself?
Purrs and head-butts,
Lexy"
Lexy's been at KC Pet Project's Main Adoption Center
for a long time. In fact, she's been there the longest of all the cats there, so it's time she finds her forever human, don't you think?
"Hey, is there such a thing as Tongue-Out Thursday?
Because if so, I'm so there."
"How'd I do?
You know, for an older guy like me, it's kinda hard to keep track of all these new-fangled social media trend things. But I'm game for anything.
I'm especially game for a new home. My fur may be a bit scruffy around the edges, and these bones creak a bit more each year, but I sure do have a lot of loving left to give.
Are you looking for a snuggle buddy, someone to curl up with you while you play on one of those devices all the young'uns are using these days, like Netflux and HulaHoop?
If so, I'm your mancat.
Please come out and see me. At 12 years, I've learned to value every second of every day - with none to waste. So I'm all packed and ready to head home with you, any time.
Just ask for the dapper orange moggie when you get out here, and they'll direct you to me straightaway.
Purrs and soft paw-pats,
Alfie"
Alfie is waiting for you at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.
