Thursday's Purrs: Leetha

"Hello! My name is Leetha, and I'm a tiny, longhaired tuxedo cat who looooves attention!
(psst: I've been known to let people know if I'm being overlooked, too)

I do have a confession: even though it might be a bit undignified, I do love me some belly-rubbing action.

Bird TV is my fave pastime. What's yours?

"I've been waiting for my humans for a very long time. In fact, I'm one of the longest residents here at KC Pet Project. I fear it might be because I have a minor kidney problem that requires I eat a special diet.

I hope that doesn't scare people off! It's not that big a deal, honest!

Although I'm 14, I still have a lot of love to give, and many years left to give them in. I would love to spend them with you - won't you come meet me?

Purrs,
Leetha"

Leetha's available at the Main Campus of KC Pet Project. Come meet her today!

Thursday's Purrs: Blossom

We first introduced you to Blossom last November. This marmalade girl is still looking for her forever family. Won't you please share?

***

"Hullo folks, I'm Blossom, the rare orange girlcat! Did you know most orange moggies are of the male persuasion?

Although some humans may call me a bit ornery, I'm really a very sweet and fun-loving girl -- with a healthy side of catitude.

My loves are playing, sun bathing and long afternoon naps. What are yours?
I love to be with people, and let me tell you, those head and neck scritches totally rock!"

"My dislikes are being picked up and taking my medicine, (well, duh, what kitty would like that, I ask you?). I've been told I need the stuff twice a day, though, for a delicate tummy.

"I've been called a 'chatty cathy' (whatver THAT is). I am pretty talkative and would love to chat you up if you're willing to chat.

I'm an Independent Girlcat of Means, and I take my role of House Investigator very seriously.
When not working, I do love a good round of Red Dot.

Being a Proper Ladycat and all, I'm a diligent  kitty post scratcher -- and I never scratch the furniture."

"I get along well with dogs, but prefer to be the only cat of the house.

In exchange for your love, I promise cuddle up with you at night and be a loyal companion. I desperately want a home of my own and a human who adores me and accepts me for who I am. (Which if you ask my foster parents, is a pretty darn great!)

Won't you come meet me and see how we get along? I'll bet we'd get on famously!

Orange girlcat purrs,
Blossom"

Thursdays' Purrs: Molly

"Can I tell you a secret?

I love a good conversation."

"Now, don't let that serious expression fool you. (They told me I needed to look professional for the camera - go figure!)

I'm a lot more outgoing than it looks! In fact, I love nothing more than to settle in for a good, long cozy chat. I tend to get rather engaged too. I'll hang onto your every word, and even offer my opinion from time to time. Oh yes, nothing beats a healthy discussion, don't you agree?

Maybe it's because I'm such a people, uhh, person. People cat? People purrson? However you say it, I'm very people-focused!"

"I've heard the folks around here say I'm a big girl with a big personality to match. Wait. I'm not so sure I like the connotation of 'big girl'  .... Does that camera lens make me look fat? Be honest, now.

As you may have noticed, I'm a fabulous tortoiseshell tabby with gorgeous green eyes. I'm front-declawed, so I'd really rather stay indoors exclusively, if it's all the same to you.

I’m brave and adventurous, confident and cheerful. And I love the company of people. To be honest, I'm the life of the party - and I give fab headbutts. Seriously, you need to experience one for yourself!

I'm so looking forward to meeting you!
Purrs, chirps and headbutts,
Molly"

Molly's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Thursday's Purrs: Milo

"Are you looking for a sophisicat? Look no further, you've found me - Milo!

I’m well groomed, erudite and my manners are absolutely impeccable. I always use my litter box (of course). I’m a gentleman through and through."

"I’m affectionate, playful, and friendly to all—men, women and children. I’ve been accused of being a bit of a couch potato, but really I’d much prefer a 'lap potato' — I love to be held.

I’m particularly skilled at snuggling and purring. In fact, I tend do quite a bit of both—usually at the same time!

I’m also an excellent conversationalist. I like to keep a good chat going, and am always willing to share my worldly experience with you. Above all, I’m a true, loyal and loving companion. And who doesn’t need one of those?"

"Now, you may ask how a purrfect gentleman like me ended up in a shelter at my age (ahem ... 13. Not that 13’s old, mind you).

Well, I originally lived with an elderly person who placed me with friends when living arrangements had to change. The friends were quite good to me, but were just not ready to care for a cat with diabetes."

"Yes, I am diabetic. Something that’s pretty common in cats and really not a big deal in my book. Right now, my diabetes is mild and controlled by diet alone! I eat a cat food formulated for diabetics - and that's it! Someday, I may need to go onto insulin, but I’m a very gentle and well-mannered guy and giving me an injection wouldn’t be any problem at all.

Most diabetic kitties do quite well, and I expect to live a long, happy, healthy life just like any other cat. So, if you think a gent like me might make your family complete, won’t you please come down to Kansas City Pet Project’s main shelter and say hello? I’d be most honored to make your acquaintance, and absolutely thrilled to share my life and love with you.

Yours sincerely, Milo"

Milo would love for you to visit him at KC Pet Project's Main Shelter today!

Thursday's Purrs: Vera

Every Thursday, beginning this week, we'll be adding another great no-kill shelter into our kitty spotlight schedule: KC Pet Project.

This week, we'd like you to meet Vera.

Vera's photo courtesy Jill Reneé Photography. Used with permission.

According to the staff and volunteers at KC Pet Project, Vera may be the current queen of the Cat Adoption Room! We hear that she can usually be found on top of one of cat trees, looking down on her subjects.

All kidding aside, this is one girl who is just too sweet to be "in charge." She is a free roamer, though - which means that she doesn't have to stay cooped up in a kennel.

That also means you never know where you might find this pretty girl hanging out when you come to visit her in the Adoption Room. And once you meet her, you'll see why: she's a real social kind of gal! Vera loves being around people and she loves the company of other cats.

This lady is gifted with beautiful markings and incredibly soft fur. But be careful - she's kind of addictive. And she's not above begging to be picked up and carried around the room, too (something many otherwise friendly cats might not be too thrilled with!).

Come in and meet this dignified lady and let her work her magic on you.
You'll quickly see what a great addition she would be to your family!

Thursday's Purrs: Harold

"Hi, I'm Harold!
I'm a handsome silver tabby cat, weighing about 10 pounds.
I was brought to Wayside Waifs when my last shelter ran out of space for me."

"I know this will be my last stop before I head to my fur-ever home with my new peeps, and can't wait to give all of my love to my purr-fect match. Think that could be you?

I'm a sweet guy who's looking for a family who will be patient and gentle with me while I get used to my new surroundings. I need to feel comfortable before I really feel confident enough to explore and interact."

"I'd love for you to bring the whole family out so I can meet them before heading home. I was given the feline-ality of Private Investigator because I'm an independent guy who knows how to keep to himself.

I'll be behind the scenes exploring and watching over the house for you! Even though I like my alone time, I'll be sure to give you plenty of quality time. I'm not much of a player, I'd rather just snuggle up next to you. I'll be sure to let you know how much I love you with plenty of head butts and purrs.

I'm a loving guy with a lot to offer and I hope you'll come by soon to get to know me!
Love,
Harold"

"Hi, I'm Suzette! I'm a beautiful, Domestic Medium Hair cat, weighing about 8 pounds and I was brought to Wayside Waifs when I was found, lost and alone as a stray.

I know this will be my last stop before I head to my fur-ever home with my new peeps! I can't wait to give all of my love to my purr-fect match. Think that could be you?"

National Grey Day + World Redhead Day

In honor of National Grey Day, we present to you one stunning Grey moggy ready to celebrate in his new forever home. Any takers?

"Hello there, my name is Shadow. My mom was recently put in a nursing home and couldn't take me with her so now ... here I am.

I am an indoor cat who loves boxes, toys, and the company of my owner."

Shadow, peering out from his kennel, hoping someone will take him home.

"And hey, I'm the kind of kitty who loves a good dog friend. I grew up with dogs, but must admit that other cats aren't really my thing.

I am a bit cautious around strangers, but once I trust you, I would LOVE to be petted. And as a mature, 11 year old guy, no kittenish nonsense from me, I can tell you that!

Not only have I lived with dogs, but I also used to live with kids and we were fine together.
Overall, I am a sweet cat just looking for a new home.
Do I sound like a good fit for you?
Purrs,
Shadow"

Shadow is available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA.

Up next, celebrating World Redhead Day in his own inimitable way, we present to you: Tito.

"Meow there! Tito's my name, and being adorable is my game.

As you can see from my picture, I'm a beautiful orange and white medium-haired boy. I have little freckles on my nose, which I've been told are super cute.

I came to Wayside from another shelter that was low on space, so I'm thrilled to be here, where I know I will find my forever person or people."

"What, me? Smirk? Perish the thought! I'm just mugging for the camera!"

"In my previous home I lived with young children and sometimes played too rough with them, so I would prefer to be in a calm, quiet home without little kids. I also will need a patient adopter who will help me learn not to scratch on furniture. I have my very own scratcher at Wayside, which I can take home with me.

Also, our wonderful adoption counselors can give you information on working with me. I enjoy playtime, and my favorite toy is a feather wand. So much fun!

I also love to be brushed. My Felineality is Sidekick. That means that my favorite thing in the world is just hanging out with my favorite person or people.
Could it be you?
Love,
Tito"

And Tito's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs!

Thursday's Purrs: Maddie

" Meow there!

My name is Maddie, and I'm a beautiful longhaired brown and golden torbie.

What's a torbie, you ask? A cat with both tortoiseshell and tabby markings! I am super soft, and I have a marvelous purr."

"I was found as a stray. Can you believe someone let a sweet, gorgeous girl like me get away?

I can be little bashful at first, but I love attention. If you come to my kennel and talk to me, I will roll around while I'm listening, hanging on your every word. If you hold out your hand, I will give you some great headbutts. Hey, it's like I'm petting you!

You might have noticed that I'm 8 years old, but that's barely middle age for a cat. If you take good care of me, we could expect to enjoy many happy, healthy years together.

If you adopt me, I promise to take good care of you, too, giving you lots of love.

Love and headbutts,
Maddie"

Maddie's available at Allie'a Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Thursday's Purrs: Millie

"Hello there! My name is Millie - but some of the people here at Great Plains call me Grace. Just the other day someone whispered to me that I was as sweet and graceful as could be.

They said that if my gorgeous dilute tortie fur doesn't draw you in, my sweet curious personality was sure to!"

"I have a bit of a hard-luck story to tell you. Someone found me in an elementary school playground, you see, all lost and alone. Then they brought me here to Great Plains SPCA.

They have taken very good care of me here, but I think I'm ready to go home and find my forever family. Don't be worried about me being an older girl, it just means I'm pre-loved and I know how to be a good kitty.

In fact, I'm still very curious and playful!"

"I may be on the quieter side, but I have a loud personality to make up for it.
And, I just love to be petted!

(P.S. I may look like I am sleeping when you come see me, but I am really just resting up, waiting to be loved, honest!)

Please won't you come pay me a visit?

Hopeful purrrs,
Millie"

Millie's available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA.

Thursday Purrs: Dakota

"Who's black and white and pink all over?
Me!

I have a stunning, super-soft, black-and-white coat and the most adorable pink nose and paw pads. See?"

"Oh, and my name is Dakota. I came to Wayside from another shelter that was low on space, so I'm thrilled to be here, where I just know my forever person or people will walk in and fall in love with me.

I can be a little shy at first, but I enjoy being petted and have a cute little meow.
I have a soft, gentle purr, and I make great headbutts!"

"You may have noticed that I'm 10 years old, but that is just middle age for a cat. If you take good care of me, we can expect to enjoy many happy, healthy years together.

I will need my adopter to feed me canned food because I have no teeth. They were causing me problems, so they have all been extracted.

But that's okay. I'm doing fine.

In fact, the only thing that would make life better would be to find my forever person or people.

Could it be you?
Love,
Dakota"

Dakota is available today at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Inky

"Hello there, my name is Inky!

From the moment you meet me, you will notice the beauty mark on my face.
I suppose that dashing little smudge might be where I got my name - you never can tell!"

"You may notice that I'm a bit mature at 13 years, but don't judge me based on my age. I've still got a lot of spunk in me!

I love to be petted and would be a great lap cat companion. In my opinion, the best cats are ones that will just relax with you on a lazy weekend or a calm night after a long day of work or school."

"I'm a great listener, too. You can tell me anything and I'll love you for just talking to me!

I love to curl up on soft blankets and take it easy. I would possibly test out some fun toys with you. So come on in and meet me today.
I'm waiting patiently to meet my forever family and go home!

Purrs,
Inky"

Inky's available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA, waiting to meet you today!

Thursday Purrs: Wayside's Duchess

"Hi, I'm Duchess! I'm an Exotic Shorthair cat full of fluff and weighing about 6 pounds.

I was found, lost and alone, and luckily they brought me here to Wayside Waifs. I've been shown so much love and care and I have hope that my family will be here any day now to find me."

"The peeps here have given me the the feline personality assessment and I tested out as a personal assistant. I'll make you wonder how you ever managed without a gal like me in your life, seriously!

I'll be right by your side to help you with all your daily tasks. I'm a great companion."

"My favorite toy to play with is my toy mouse. It's so much fun to chase after! Once I warm up to you I'll make sure to give you plenty of head butts and let you know how much I love you with plenty of purrs.

I hope that you'll return the favor with plenty of petting, my soft, grey coat is perfect for it!
I hope to meet you soon.

Please stop by and say hi!
Love,
Duchess"

Duchess is 10 years young. She's old enough to be over that crazy kitten manic behavior, and also old enough to know what she wants in a human.

We hope someone understands that - even though 10 is considered "senior" - it doesn mean there aren't loads of years this girl has left to spend loving her human!

Please share this girl - she's available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs!

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Nelly

"Hello friends, my name is Nelly.

I hear there's a famous rapper named after me. I'm a girl and he's a guy I hear, but other than that - well, I think I could meow a few raps of my own here and there, if you'd like me to try!"

Check out my stunning green eyes, too!

"The only fans I want in my fan club though, would be my future forever family.
Love and support from a wonderful human or humans is the only fame I'm after.

I have the wisdom of maturity on my side and would love to settle in this winter and cuddle with a good human. Know of any?

I'm very loving and I have a great personality that can get along with just about everyone.

I can't wait to be someone's BFF (best furry friend).
Think you might be interested?

Purrs,
Nelly-the-cat (not the rapper)"

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Dottie

"Hello, my name is Dottie.
The folks here at Great Plains SPCA say I'm extra sweet, friendly and loving.
And, if you don't mind me being a little, well, less modest...
I am."

"But...
I have a secret name, did you know? (looks right, looks left)
If you could just...come a little closer...

Want to hear it?
It's...
Houdini.

Yes, that's right, I'm secretly known as Dottie 'Houdini' Girlcat.
My secret superpower? Scaling 8 foot walls! I kid you not!"

Contemplating crime-fighting. Or perhaps just secret girlcat things.
"I hear they're telling people that I should be an "inside cat" because of that.
I must admit, I agree. You see, somehuman (whose name shall be withheld) front declawed me.
It might be one reason I learned to scale such heights in a single bound. The world out there is a bit scary, you know?

At any rate, I'm on the hunt for a human super hero to come rescue me. Know of any?
Might you be my hero?

I'd love to hang out in your secret lair. I promise - your secret identity is safe with me.

Pinky swear!
~Dottie"

This 9 year old supergirlcat is awaiting her partner in crime fighting - err, ah, web surfing and movie-sofa watching - at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA today!

Wednesday's Waif: Trinity

"Pleased to meet you! My name is Trinity, and I think it's because I only have three legs."

"I'm missing my back right leg, but it doesn't get me down at all! I'm a beautiful dilute torbie girl, which means I have both tortoiseshell and tabby markings. (Get it? Tortie + Tabby = Torbie!)

I also have super soft fur, beautiful golden eyes and one of the sweetest faces around. People here at Wayside describe me as an active, friendly kitty who loves being talked to and petted and has a wonderful purr."

We Tripod girls love to participate in Boxing, too! I'm Expert Level!

"I was adopted from Wayside once before, but I did not get along well with the other cats and the dog in the home. Also, I can get a little nippy when the sides of my back are touched. So it's best if I go to a calm, quiet home with no children under 7, and I would love to be the only pet!

At 10 years of age, I'm right in my prime. I'm past all the silly kitten stuff, which means I will be a stable, loving companion. My Felineality personality assessment is Personal Assistant. That means I'm moderately brave in new situations, and I'm very people-oriented.

Whatever you're doing around the house, whether you're cooking dinner or watching TV, I will be right by your side, ready to lend a lovely paw.

If you're looking for a sweet, gentle girl with a lot of love to give, come to Wayside and ask for Trinity, won't you?

Purrs,
Trinity"

Trinity is available at Allie's Alma Mater, Wayside Waifs.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Sally

"Hello,
Do you remember that movie, "When Harry Met Sally"? Well, I'm Sally."

"Do you think there might be a Harry, or a Steve, or a Martha just waiting to meet me, too?
I sure hope so, because I'm ready to go spend my days curled up and purring in a loving lap.

I'm just a sweet, loving middle-aged lady looking for someone to call my own. I have a gentle and nurturing disposition and would love nothing more than to cuddle next to you in the evenings to share some time together.

I'm looking for a second chance at life with someone who treasures every moment as much as I do. I love to be petted. Do you love to hear purring? We may just be the purr-fect match.

purrs, Sally"

Sally is available today at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA!
