This is such an important topic - in fact, it's what tomorrow's Monday Medical post is all about.
And after viewing this infographic, we just might have a few surprise bits of info for you, as well as a good discussion on how to combat it.

This is a great topic and the infographic is really well done..One reason I started making most of his treats myself is to avoid the fillers & empty calories
ReplyDeleteThe infographic is cool. We run around so much luckily we don't have a weight problem. Have a super Sunday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Wow thanks for all the information!

Great post!
ReplyDeleteMy human practices strict portion control on us kitties, and one of us (yes, you, Binga!) REALLY hates it! But as a result, none of us are overweight.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool infographic!
ReplyDeleteShe keeps me starving, I mean slim..Can't you put one on their for the Humoms BOL xx00xx
ReplyDeleteMollie and Alfie
I'm starving over here too. I'm so mistreated. M and the vet think I'm overweight, but I say I'm just rolly polly! Now they are starving. M keeps checking the bags for calorie count, but she has yet to see that on a bag. The vet said to limit my food intake to 1/2 cup a day with a tablespoon of wet food to supplement. I'm still starving tho!
ReplyDeleteSadly I'm a member of the club. Measured kibble, minimal treats...they keep telling me I need to work out. I've got one more month before the Vet checks my weight again. I might have to start eating Rx food. That CAN'T be good.

Hmmmmmmm, maybe that is why I've been on portion control!!!
ReplyDeletePinned this. graphics send a powerful message. I think the labeling for feeding portions on cat food cans is very misleading.
ReplyDeleteWe all agree over here too! (Mommy sez they're too generous in their portion size, but we tell her they're way too stingy)
DeleteSuch an important topic! Bailey used to weigh 20 lbs. That's as much as The Dog! Our vet said cats should only lose about 4 lbs per year, they shouldn't lose a lot all at once, that's not healthy either. So, it took a few years, and some changes, but Bailey is now 12 lbs! (which means she can now jump onto the counters!)
ReplyDeleteGreat infographic, pals! The mom and dad have us on portion control, too. Sammy weighed more than 21 POUNDS when he first arrived at PAWS. Then 19.3 when they brought him home. Now he's an oldster, but through diet and exercise (and some age), he's less than 13. :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous post! Everyone here is on portion control, though some of us are plumper than others. Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrs.
ReplyDeletewe see so many obese cats and dogs come into the shelters, we see the dogs on the streets in town...what is it with the bipeds??? They are so bent on destroying their own health with obesity that they want to share????
