If you've followed us for any amount of time, you know that we're real geeks at our house. Kinda comes with the whole "I'm married to a physicist" territory.
That basically means that if it's got a cool tech or scientific angle, we're all over it.
← (Yeah, we're the ones with the Geiger counter stored in the kitchen cabinet, remember?)
So we were all sorts of excited to be chosen as one of the bloggers for the
Neato Best Pet Vacuum campaign.
(TIP: you'll want to read to the end of this post, I guarantee. Can you say Giveaway??? Woot!)
Do I want one? Heck, yeah!
Geek-Out Time
Why do I want a Neato Vacuum?
Reason #1:
Serious cleaning power.
|
Plush dust mite.
Because a real one?
That's just GROSS. |
|
Most top performing vacuums specializing in allergens and pet filtration feature particle removal down to 0.5 microns in size. That's what two of our three upright vacuums do.
To give you a feel for the
scale of the micron, this dot right here ( . ) is 615 microns, give or
take, depending on the font size your browser loads it.
My uprights will pick up things like dust bunnies, human hair and dust mites. Gee, who knew those suckers were so big? They weigh in at a whopping 100 microns! (okay, so object in photo may or may not be larger than life.) They'll even pick up mold spores, at 10 microns.

But they can miss out on some of the more critical particles, like insecticide dusts we track in with our shoes. Or tobacco particles in homes with smokers.
That's the realm of top-tier of performance vacuums, the ones with the
highest stated filtration: 0.3 microns. These vacuums can
even pick up some viruses.
Yes, you guessed it: a Neato Vacuum falls into that top tier. That's the very best you can get from any commercial vacuum, anywhere.
Oh, and they filter out radioactive fallout, too. You know. In case you were wondering. (Geiger counter, remember?)
Reason #2:
It's a nice time-saver. And it's pattern doesn't drive me nuts.
The time saver part is a slam-dunk. You program it once and walk away. The pattern thing is because, I admit, I'm a bit anal. Have you seen those Shark Cat videos? Have you watched how haphazard the pattern is on that thing he's riding? It would drive me nuts to see that. With the Neato Botvac, though, you get nice, neat rows. Now there's something I can appreciate.
And, of course, like Maxwell said
in our last post, #BecauseLasers. BOOM.
Reason #3: I don't think it will scare the cats. Really, I don't.
I know we had a lively discussion in our last post's comments about whether or not the sound of a Neato Botvac would freak out a cat. Possibly, at first. And true, every cat has different "monsters under the bed" they deal with. But with ours, I think it's tied to the intimidating size of an upright.
To support my position, I referenced how our cats react to the loud noise of a remote-controlled drone flying inside our kitchen.
I can't imagine the Neato would be louder than this:
I think what intrigues the cats about the drone is how it moves. They are fascinated by them and love to chase them.
I can totally see our three doing the same with a Neato vacuum. (And yeah, I'd love to see Faraday riding it, too - if only for the photo opportunities!)
In addition to the Botvac 85 they're giving away, the guys over at Neato thought you might be interested in some helpful tips on how to manage pet shedding. You can find them
in this online PDF file written by PetMD and Pet360, and sponsored by Neato Robotics. In this helpful guide, you'll read about shedding problems, nutrition to promote a healthy coat, and coat care tips.
