Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Julie

"Hi there, my name's Julie. I came to Great Plains with my sister when my people could no longer care for us and now I'm looking for my purrfect forever home."

"I'm a refined, middle-aged lady which means all that kitten craziness is far, far behind me. Nope, you won't have to worry about the drapes being pulled down with me around. I'm really only interested in spending time with you or lounging in a nice sun puddle, maybe looking out the window.

I'm no spring-kitten at ten years of age, but trust me on this - I have many years of love left to give.

I get along fine with the other kitties here in my room and in my last home, I even lived with a cat-friendly doggie. I also get along with all ages of respectful children.

I'm declawed which means you'll need to make sure I remain an indoor kitty; I have no way to defend myself in the big, scary outside world.

If you're looking for a laid-back, loving companion then won't you come over to meet me soon?
I'll be waiting...
Purrs, Julie"

Julie is available today at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Nelly

"Hello friends, my name is Nelly.

I hear there's a famous rapper named after me. I'm a girl and he's a guy I hear, but other than that - well, I think I could meow a few raps of my own here and there, if you'd like me to try!"

Check out my stunning green eyes, too!

"The only fans I want in my fan club though, would be my future forever family.
Love and support from a wonderful human or humans is the only fame I'm after.

I have the wisdom of maturity on my side and would love to settle in this winter and cuddle with a good human. Know of any?

I'm very loving and I have a great personality that can get along with just about everyone.

I can't wait to be someone's BFF (best furry friend).
Think you might be interested?

Purrs,
Nelly-the-cat (not the rapper)"

Sunday's Sweetie on Monday: Winky (aka Janet)

"Psst!
Can I let you in on my secret identity?"

"My name is Janet, but the folks over here at Great Plains call me Winky. Betcha can't guess why...

I've heard some of the very nice people here say it's just awful that people think a girl like me is less adoptable just because my right eye is a teensy bit cloudy. It doesn't bother me in any way, and if you'd just come in and meet me, I could prove it to you in a New York minute!

I'm an incredibly affectionate girl with a huge purr motor packed into a petite little body. Just give me your hand for a second and watch me rev my engine!"

Here I am, ready to pounce on the red dot!!!
"I simply adore people. Yep, I'm a people cat, and can hardly wait to have one of my very own so we can hang out together, catch mice together, find the red dot together, read together, Instagram together... uh, I guess you get my drift, huh?

About the eye - really, it's not a problem. They even had a specialist look at it for you. And the specialist will meet with you (free!!) to discuss it and to ease any concerns you might have.

Please oh please...I'd just LOVE to have my very own human for the new year! Let's resolve to make our very own family happen right away, what do you say?

Buckets of purrs just for you,
Janet (aka Winky)"

Janet's been at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA since this past May - don't you think this sweet girl's time has come? Please share and let's help get this loving girl her very own human!

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Dottie

"Hello, my name is Dottie.
The folks here at Great Plains SPCA say I'm extra sweet, friendly and loving.
And, if you don't mind me being a little, well, less modest...
I am."

"But...
I have a secret name, did you know? (looks right, looks left)
If you could just...come a little closer...

Want to hear it?
It's...
Houdini.

Yes, that's right, I'm secretly known as Dottie 'Houdini' Girlcat.
My secret superpower? Scaling 8 foot walls! I kid you not!"

Contemplating crime-fighting. Or perhaps just secret girlcat things.
"I hear they're telling people that I should be an "inside cat" because of that.
I must admit, I agree. You see, somehuman (whose name shall be withheld) front declawed me.
It might be one reason I learned to scale such heights in a single bound. The world out there is a bit scary, you know?

At any rate, I'm on the hunt for a human super hero to come rescue me. Know of any?
Might you be my hero?

I'd love to hang out in your secret lair. I promise - your secret identity is safe with me.

Pinky swear!
~Dottie"

This 9 year old supergirlcat is awaiting her partner in crime fighting - err, ah, web surfing and movie-sofa watching - at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA today!

Thankful

Five years ago last month, A Tonk's Tail began.

Some of you have been with us from the beginning, as we took our first fledgling steps on this digital canvas. You were with us when Allie came into our lives, and you were there when we lost Ryker so very suddenly.

Thank you.

You shared our joy as two six month old blue-eyed terrors charmed their way into our lives, and my personal terror they'd be named after elementary particles!

Some of you joined us more recently, and together we've enjoyed moments of mischief and mayhem, of laughter and learning and love.

Thank you.

This year alone we've had the joy of bringing before you 40 Waifs and Shelter Sweeties. Thirty-six of these have found forever families, and we know that a large part of this has been because of you. You cared, and you shared. And we are forever grateful.

We're humbled and amazed at the strength and compassion of the community of animal advocates, a community that spans the globe.

Thank you.

We want you to know how very thankful we are -- for your friendship, your warm and funny comments, your fellowship and support.

We wouldn't be here if it weren't for you.
So, from all of us to all of you:

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Deanna

"Hello there, human! I'm Deanna. I came to Great Plains as a rescue with 7 (SEVEN!!) newborn babies.

Want to know what I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving season?

I got to stay in a lovely foster home while my kids grew big enough to be adopted. And despite all of them being black kitties like me (it's tough for us to find homes, you know), they were all adopted within days.

Now it's my turn to find a forever home."

"I'm a very friendly girl who loves meeting new people. I'm very affectionate and love to be petted. I'm still just a young thing myself, which means I also love to play. Oh, and I'm sure you've noticed -- well, I'm a bit of a looker, if I do say so myself.

How about coming over to meet me? We can be home in time for Thanksgiving!"

"Being around people is where I'm meant to be and I'd love to find a forever home today. The people here are nice and take good care of us, but it's just not the same as a real home.

I'm just an all around fun and interesting lady.....and beautiful to boot! What more could you ask for?

Come visit me soon!

Purrs,
Deanna"

Deanna is available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA, today.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Butterscotch

"Hello! My name's Butterscotch.

I came to Great Plains as a stray and am ready to find my furrever home! I'm just a teenager - lanky and gangly and lookin' for fun! My body is growing fast, but I'm still as playful as a little kitten. I love to play and learn new things."

"My ideal family will spend lots of time with me teaching me the ways of the world. If you adopt me, you get all the fun of a kitten without the kitten pricetag! (Psst...I've also learned some of my manners and am a little less messy.)

When playtime is finally over I'll be ready to snuggle up with you for a nap. It's my second favorite thing to do. I'm not getting any younger and I have lots to learn from you.

Get on down here today and break me outta this joint!"

Butterscotch is available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA, today.

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Kali

"Hullo humans,
You sure are big. And kinda scary."

"At least you seem tons and tons larger than li'l ol 6-month-old me.

I might be a bit skittish and try to hide when you first come meet me, but please don't let that put you off. I'm really a very sweet little girl, and I'm hoping to find a home that's a bit quiet and where someone nice like you might be willing to go slow as I get used to my new home."

"I dream of having a nice, safe, warm place of my own someday, with a nice lap to cuddle up in. Would that be your home, maybe?

Shy purrs,
Kali"

Kali is available today at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA!

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Twix

"Hi people! I'm Twix.
And I loooooooooove to cuddle. Betcha you couldn't tell, could you?"

"Everyone here says I'm a handsome boy with mesmerizing green eyes. Anyone know what mesmerizing means? Hey! What say I come home with you and I can paw my way through your dictionary and find out!"

"ooh wow, now I'm all excited and stuff!
Ready to go?  I can be packed in a jiff - I just have my wand toy and a mousie or two.
Here, let me go grab them and we can be off!

Wow, this'll be the most excitement I've had in all my whole four months!!!

Boycat purrs,
Twix"

#SundaySelfie for Shelter Sweetie CIDER!

"Hey guys! I'm Cider!"

"I'm a sweet, long and lanky golden boy, and I'm friendly and love to play.
(I also really, reeeeeally love my BirdTV. And SquirrelTV, too!)

Some people have mentioned that I can come across as aggressive to other cats, but that's sooooooo not true. I'm just a bit - ah - energeticand enthusiastic when it comes to meeting other kitties. I get so excited that I'll be able to hang with them that I kind of forget my manners!"

"But seriously, if you want a cat that's friendly and fun - and who does love other cats, although I've been labeled a bit *cough* socially "awkward" (embarrassed look) ...

Please, won't you consider getting to know me for a bit?

I can't WAIT for my forever family to come by!!

Purrs,
Cider"

Cider is available today at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA!

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie (on Thursday): Gracie

"Hi friend. Gracie here and I am what you would call a big ol' cuddle buddy.

I can be a bit shy at first and when you first come to meet me, I'd like to for us to have a short conversation first."

"I'll softly introduce myself and then we can get on with it. I LOVE being held and petted. Think of how warm you would be on a cold winter night with me snuggled beside you! I have gorgeous soft fur and just can't get enough pets.

And if you do it juuuuust right, I just might give you a kiss or two.

Ready to take me home now??? I know I am ready to go!
Purrs, Gracie"

Sunday's Shelter #Selfie: MUNCHIE!

"Do you like to get great kitty kisses? I sure hope so, because I love to give them!!!"

"My name is Munchie and I am a super-sweet kitty who needs a true forever home. Seems like my former people moved and forgot to take me with them! Don't know how that could happen because I'm such a loving little girl and cute as a button too!"

"I would love to hang out with you, play some kitty games and snuggle lots and lots! Oh, and give you lots of kitty kisses, too, of course! I also love to look out the window and watch the world go by! But I like to stay indoors where I know I'm safe and loved.

So, if you're looking for a girl who will make you feel happy and loved too, I hope you'll come to meet me! I'd love to be your new BFF if you'll be mine!!! "

*shy look* So...how did I do with my very first Sunday Selfie? I think this last one is the one I'll enter today!

Please let everyone know how sweet I am (and a faithful, loving companion, too!). I'd love to find a new home very soon....

Sweet little girly purrs,
Munchie"
Can you believe anyonewould simply abandon this gorgeous girl?
Let's show her not every human is like that, what say?

Shelter Sweetie: Ebony's #SundaySelfie

"Oh, hi there! My name is Ebony, and I probably don't need to tell you how I earned my name. But what you can't tell from my pictures is what a friendly, snuggly guy I am. I love everybody I meet!"

"When you come to visit me at the shelter (you are coming, right?) you just may find me on greeter patrol, welcoming all the visitors. Or I may be on the computer "helping" the staff do their work. You see, I just love hanging out with people SO much. Everyone who visits says what a super cool and friendly dude I am.

I may be a big guy, but I'm definitely still a kitten at heart and just want to be in your lap or cozied up next to you in bed. When it's lap time and you get going with the scritches.....watch out! It's been said my purr motor is so loud you may need ear protection! I'm really smart too! I was the star pupil in a training class here at the shelter."

"I recently spent some time with a foster family. My foster mom loves me soooooo much (she says I'm her boyfriend) and she desperately wanted to make me a permanent part of her family, but it just wasn't meant to be. You see, there were already some other kitties there and I'm just NOT willing to share my human(s). I want to be with you all the time and I don't want anyone getting in my way.

So, besides the no-other-felines thing, the only thing you need to know about me is that I have to follow a specific diet. I've had a history of digestion issues and they're finally all resolved now! Whew! It's no big deal.....I just need to eat a controlled amount of a specific food and only limited treats. The staff here can tell you all the details about that. I've already lost some weight on this diet and as you can probably see, that's not a bad thing!

I really don't understand why I'm still here at the shelter. My soft, shiny black coat together with my emerald green eyes makes me quite the looker, or so I am told. I guess my perfect family just hasn't made it down here yet. Could it be you? Won't you come down and meet me today! I can't wait to be part of a family again....

Purrs,
Ebony"

Ebony has been waiting FAR too long for his forever family. Let's get this handsome guys adopted, what say?

He's available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA today!

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Arthur George

"Hi, I'm Arthur George, or as my friends here call me, The Prince of Purr!"

"The humans here at Great Plains SPCA tell me that I'm pretty special in the personality department. They say I'm super sweet.

Hey, all I know is that I love people! To give and receive affection is my idea of a day well spent.

And I'm a cute little guy too, if I do say so myself.... *modest look*

If you come to Great Plains' Merriam Campus, ask the folks if they can arange a meeting - just you and me. I promise I'll make room on my calendar for you - even if I have to cancel a few appointments (you know, nip chasing or wand toy play).

Again, the name's Arthur George, and nothing's more important to me than a meetup with you!"

Arthur George is available at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA!

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Juniper

"hello there! I just arrived at Great Plains, and I'm still a teensy bit nervous about all these strange humans.
And Cats! There are cats - strange cats - EVERYwhere!!

Of course, bring a Tortie-Point Siamese, I'm stout hearted. I'm not going to hide quivering in the corner, oh no, not me!"

"(But, uhm...well...I might - might - get a bit snippy with you if you try to pet me too soon after we meet. A girl's got to be careful around strangers, after all!)

I would dearly love a forever home, though, so please be patient with me. I wantto be cuddled, but when we first meet, I'm just not quite sure I can trust you . You know, up-front and all.

Would you be willing to give me a little time? And to be honest, I'm a girl with strong opinions, a girl who knows her own mind. So I'm not going to be all clingy and mushy and all. You need your space every once in a while? I get that; I do too!

If you're interested in a strong, intelligent and independent female who will travel faithfully with you doen the road of life, then I'm your girl!

What say we try this "family" thing - today. I'm at the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA. I'll be the drop-dead gorgeous one, hanging out in the back kennel.

Or just ask for Juniper!"

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Gino

"Hi there, I'm Gino and so glad to meet you.

As you can tell from viewing my picture, I'm a very handsome boy with medium to long black, luxurious fur."

"I am a very responsible boy, in that I maintain my coat quite well myself, but would love a little help now and then from a human - that's YOU!

You see, brushing is more than just keeping my coat in tip top shape, it's a little bit of loving at the same time. And usually we can have a very nice discussion during this time as well.

I was adopted from Great Plains a while back with my sister. We got along great while we were here, always cuddling and playing together.

But when we got to our furrever home, I became jealous whenever Lila got attention and I didn't. So it may be best if I go to a home where I can be king of the castle and get all the attention.

I'm very mild mannered, well behaved, and love to play. I think I'd make a fine addition to your family, don't you?

Please come visit me soon.
I'm hoping for a true forever home each and every day.
Purrs,
Gino"

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Delilah

"Hello!
My name is Delilah and I was picked up by a kindly person and brought here."

"When my previous adopter was contacted, the folks here were told that she did not want me any more because she was allergic. I really wish she had just brought me back here herself. It would have saved me a lot of stressful nights on the street, alone and afraid.

Ah, well, that is the past and now I want to find a new home where I will not have to worry about repeating such a sad experience. I am just the tiniest bit shy and need my humans to help me with that.

My heart is just full of love that I want to share for always with my special humans. I am hoping that we find each other soon and start on building our future as a family.

My girlfriend, Allie, tells me I have FAB fashion sense and I would be the purrfect Fashion Consultant for anyone seeking a Feline Expert in the Field."

"Do you know anyone who might be interested?

If so, I'll be waiting for them and the Merriam Campus of Great Plains SPCA.

Stunningly (and sweetly) yours,
Delilah"

Sunday's Shelter Sweetie: Shiloh

"Sorry for all the alliteration in today's header, Faraday says to blame his mom, but I'm too nice for that!

Hey, just two days ago it was Black Cat Friday!  Think my forever family was out looking for me? Hope they find me SOON!

I was just wondering...

Might you be looking for a friend to snuggle with?
Do you want to hang with a kitty who loves being petted?"

"Wow, hey, that's me! I'm here looking for a new family, after my last one was forced to move and couldn't take me with them. I really like the comfort of people (both big and little!!) and miss hanging out with them ere so much.

I'll be honest - I'm not the bravest guy on the block. I'm getting used to the staff and volunteers here, but all the new people coming and going can be a little scary.
It's hard to tell if a stranger will be nice or not.

Outside scares me; I'm definitely an indoor-only kitty. Dogs scare me too, so no please? No doggie housemates?

I do love other cats though. If you have any other kitties, I'm sure we'd get along great!

And kids! Did I mention that I like kids?!?

Other than hanging out with you getting petted, I also really like chasing toys and critters on the ground.

Won't you give me a chance? If you introduce yourself slowly, I'll warm up to you quickly and I'm sure we'll become the best of friends.

Patiently awaiting your visit....
Shiloh"
