Blogpaws has announced that August is Senior Pet Celebration Month.
We think that's a wonderful idea!
We can't tell you how many worthy cats cross the threshold of our shelter that are considered "senior" simply because they're over a certain age. We certainly don't consider them to be less adoptable - yet all too often that's exactly how potential adopters view them.
Take a look at the stats in this infographic and pass it along to anyone you know who is considering adopting a pet. Take special note of the statistic about the percentage of a pet's life span considered to be "geriatric."
We hope this is eye-opening for many!
Many thanks to BlogPaws for this infographic.
At 6 years of age, Curly and Pok (our guinea pig brofurs) are seniors! :)
ReplyDeleteWe are seniors too. Have a tremendous Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
At what age is a cat considered senior?
ReplyDeleteHi Sushi! At the shelter where our mom volunteers, they call any cat over 6 a "senior", which we think is awfully young!
DeleteMom loves the older kitties. She said there will be a 12 yr old long-haired male made available soon at the shelter. Hardest type of cat to be adopted, but she says he is very sweet!
ReplyDeleteMe is "just" 3 1/2 so I´m still a youngster :)
ReplyDeleteMy mom-person doesn´t brush my toothies efurryday but she does it a couple of times a week.
I just love your new look and I love senior critters!
ReplyDeleteI love the graphic and boy, you meowed a mouthful when you said Nellie's mommy is talented!
ReplyDeleteVery good information. Thank you so much for sharing. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteThis is great for the older ones, Oh Alfie's old I'm still a baby @)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, catch ya Monday

I love this infographic. I think seniors are awesome. Sure, you won't see them tumble like puppies and kitties... but they're really great when you want to relax and feel calm.
ReplyDeleteGood info. Our Buddy is an elder and Dad cannot figure as his activity goes up so does his girth. Hmmm. We will have to get him to chase us more
ReplyDeleteWe have a strong tendency to adopt "senior" kitties. Moosey wasn't senior when we got him (but now is). Sammy was about 11 or 12 when we adopted him, and he lived to be 19. :)
ReplyDeleteOur seniors have moved on. It sure is different around here with a five year old and kitten - a whole new dynamic!
ReplyDeleteWe love this graphic! We love BlogPaws, too! And Disco said he resembles obese but wishes he didn't...
