Saturday Doubleheader: "Who Let the Dogs Out!"

*gasp* Did someone say DOGS?

Yep. We had heard that Tillman had a show on The Hallmark Channel, but we'd never watched it. In fact, we've seen Tillman on twitter but we've never before seen him skateboard.

But Friday, all that changed. The episode that caught our collective eye was the one featuring BlowPaws 2012. Many of our friends attend BlogPaws, and in fact, we're sending mom as our representative for the very first time this May to BlogPaws 2013!

So we told Mommy she'd better watch - yanno, so she'd know what to wear at the conference so she didn't embarrass us or anything.

Holy cat! What a fun show! We had never seen Tillman do his thing - and can that dog ride a mean skateboard or what. Color us kitties impressed!

And we absolutely loved seeing some of our friends being interviewed about the conference - and loved being able to glimpse a bit of what the conference will be like. We're excited we'll be represented out there this year and expect our mom to learn loads of cool stuff that she can then put to good use on our behalf.

Mom was especially pleased to see the segment on brushing your pet's teeth since this is so important - and since February is Pet Dental Health Month.

(If you are on the fence about whether or not it's important to clean your pet's teeth, you won't want to miss the first of a new 2-part post coming this Monday, right here, as veterinarian Dr. Sara Huber talks about the dangers of dental disease in older pets...and whether or not they truly feel dental pain like humans do.)

At this point, we discovered this lovely contest being hosted by Tillman over on his blog: they're giving away a 3-night hotel package and a BlogPaws Conference pass to all pet bloggers who post about the show and contest before 11:59 PM (EST) tomorrow. Count us in!

Anyone care to join us?

Write a Post, Feed a Dog!

As the family SpokesCat for shelter animals, I am excited to announce our participation in Pedigree's "Write a Post, Help a Dog" Blog Hop! This year marks the third year in a row that Pedigree has committed to donate a 17 pound bag of food for every blog that participates by writing about their commitment to helping homeless dogs find forever homes.

Pedigree understand that over 4 million dogs are made homeless each year, and they want to help. So in December of 2011, they entered into partmership with Rescue Bank, a national food distribution network, to help bring food to hungry shelter dogs in America.

How can you help? Easy!
Just write a blog post telling everyone about Pedigree's program, and a 17 pound bag will be donated to needy pups.

Here's how to participate:

  1. Write a blog post mentioning Pedigree's commitment to helping homeless dogs find loving forever families.
  2. Next, link your blog post to the Pedigree Blog Hop.
  3. Then feel free to browse through all the great posts already participating - and be sure to enter yourself into the giveaways that some of the bloggers are hosting.
  4. Have fun, and feel good about the fact you have done something to help!

Many thanks to Pedigree for their generosity in partnering with Rescue Bank to feed hungry shelter dogs nationwide!

The Strange Spinny Thing

This is also our entry into today's Saturday PhotoHunt: "Play"

Momma got tired of hearing us complain we were BORED, so she brought out this new toy...
well, at least we think it's a toy.

It sure kept Maxwell occupied, trying to figure out how it worked!
(But then again, he's the Thinker in the fambly. Me, I just wanna nom on it.)

Allie: Does this Top make me look fat?

More on Senior Cats

I pondered quite a bit about what to write for this Saturday's Pet Blogger's Blog Hop.

Then a friend told me about Bella, the senior kitty owned by actor Chris Pratt, who stars in the movie Moneyball that just recently came out in theatres. In a (failed) attempt to add a little comic relief to his troubles with his cat Bella, Pratt posted on his blog asking if anyone knew the best way to kill a cat.
Like I said, HUMOR: FAIL.

I'm not going to play the blame game here; Pratt is a comedian and was probably just trying to get a laugh. Thanks to public outcry he now knows not to E-V-E-R do that again. It takes a real act of stupidity to get that much bad press.

Can anyone say PR: FAIL? From his description, Bella - a 12 year old white Persian - was beginning to have incontinence issues. In the end, Pratt was able to place Bella in a home where she's the only pet.

Since part of the problem may have been the stress of an elderly cat having to coexist with two energetic pug dogs, this is a happy ending for Bella. But the entire brouhaha brought to light another issue: Bella falls solidly into the demographic of the Senior Cat. And as senior cats age, they often develop illnesses and chronic conditions that owners may not be prepared to deal with.

According to VetMed Team, more cats are living into old age than ever before, and with that comes a greater need for education on how to care for senior pets. Here's what they had to say about it: "Many, if not most, geriatric cats have multiple medical conditions, and managing them is where the art and science of veterinary practice meet. Challenging it may be, but also incredibly rewarding when the veterinary team and owner working together see the tremendous impact on the cat's life.

Many cats live for years with good management of multiple chronic medical conditions." They're currenty offering a free online course on the care of Senior Cats to anyone who has joined their community. Membership is open to all veterinarians, their employees, veterinary students and animal shelter workers. Please encourage your vet - and especially your local shelters - to take advantage of this free resource!

Saturday Shoe Shopping

(breathless Marilyn Monroe voice: )
Oh Mother! New shoes? *SQUEE!*

Ooooh, and they're Lauren too, I just adore designer shoes!
I...I think they just might be my size...
Tell me honestly, do these shoes make me look fat?
*dreamy sigh* And they match my toenails too...
 No they don't.

Yes they do! They do too! Just LOOK!
They were made for me!
I think I'm gonna hurl. I'm not kidding...

Gramma's Visit

We got to meet our Gramma an' Grampa over Labor Day!
(HIGHPAW! They give GOOD scritches!)
Anyway, I decided it was my turn to blog, so I grabbed Momma's camera and did a little Investigate Reporting while they were here. (Unca Ryker'd be proud)

This is what I saw:

Gramma decided we all needed to learn to use toothbrushes, and she even tried convincing Allie that a PINK toothbrush was stylish and would complement her collar and toenails nicely.

Momma called that a FAIL. Especially when Allie refused to open her mouth. No matter how hard Gramma tried.

Of course Faraday saw the Whole Thing, and so when Gramma picked HIM up next...

But by then, she'd already given up on toothbrushes (what a relief, since I was third in line!).
Check out that smarmy smirk on my brofur's face. Hmpf. Mebbe I need to put the bitey on him more often....

yeahhhhhh, Gramma Scritches! Now THAT's what I'm talking about!
