I was out in the backyard, Faraday insisted he needed out there too. Yowling at me from the barely-open window didn't suffice, so he proceeded to climb it.
It was a standard double-hung window, like this:
And when Faraday got to the top of the opened window, he curled his paw around behind the lock...just as his weight caused the window to come crashing down.
His paw was pinned between the upper and lower window, the feline equivalent of slamming the car door on your fingers.
The minute I saw it happen, I raced inside. Faraday was wriggling like mad to get loose! I had to lift the window to release his paw. Poor little guy - the vet said nothing was broken, but he warned swelling was going to be a problem and to keep little mister Tarzan quiet for the next week. (HA, fat chance!)
Favoring his right paw for a while |
He's actually been pretty quiet these past few days - I'm sure it's because he's not feeling well.
Yeah mommy but I scored your chair! |
And I will be extra careful in future to ensure that the window is either closed or fully open - but only when I'm home. And I'll never leave an open window unattended!
We are glad to hear that nothing was broken and Faraday was okay!!! What about putting something like a small block at the side of the window on the tracks so if it came down again it couldn't close completely and trap a paw underneath?
ReplyDeleteMaxwell: That's a great idea! Papa had opened the window & momma didn't notice it til the accident. *sigh*
DeleteOh gosh, that' scary! We had a similar incident years ago with a a tail. Our kitty almost lost the tip of tail, but fortunately the vet was able to save it.
ReplyDeleteYour pal, Pip
Mowzers, we so glad kitty's tail was saved!
DeleteOh how scary. Purrs and tail wags for a quick recovery!
ReplyDeleteCJ
Oh my gosh! Farraday! You hurt your little paw! That's just awful. Well, Momma's right, sweetie. No strenuous playing in the meantime, okay?
ReplyDeleteHope your paws get better soon... Wow, that sounded really painful.
Huggies and Cheese,
Haopee
ouch!!! mom opens our windows from the top down - she is afraid of caught toes and also Tommy fell out one a couple of years ago and was gone for a day and she was all freaked out....no more sleeping on window sills for us. Kisses Faraday!!
ReplyDeleteOh my cat! Fell out a window? Mommy'd be freaked out too!
DeleteFaraday, you poor little kitty! Our windows open side to side and TW never leaves them open when she's not home. Even then, she doesn't like leaving them open enough that if I pushed the screen out, I could fall 4 stories down.
ReplyDelete*wide-eyed look* FOUR stories!?! That's, like, all the numbers I canz count on one paw! *gulp*
DeleteWho would have ever thought that could possibly happen. So glad he will be okay. Poor Faraday.
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: *holds up paw for inspection* I...I...think I feel a bit faint. Maybe a treat would help?
DeleteOh Faraday... you poor little guy. How is your paw, now? Feeling better? I'm sending along some purrs for you, okay? Stand back... purrs from all twelve of us are on their way!
ReplyDeleteMOWZERS, it's a Purr Stampede! Bring'er on!!!
DeleteOUCH! Poor Faraday. That must have really hurt. And real bad too. :(
ReplyDeleteWe're glad nothing was broken and all you need would be some rest...well, TRY to rest, Faraday.
FaRADaY: B-b-but...there are sooo many wand toys to play wif, and so little time...!
DeleteOh no! Poor Faraday. *kisses paw better*
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: Have I mentioned I'm loving the attention? *holds paw up*
DeleteOuch, Faraday! I KNOW that hurt bunches. I'm glad it wasn't worse.
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: ME too!!!
DeleteHoly CATS! Mommy says she would have had a FIT if that happened to any of us...we are so happy you are OK, Faraday. Mommy is sending *smoochies* for your poor lil' toesies.
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: hey Mommy! I could get to like this! *holds out paw for kisses*
DeleteOh gosh, that hurts us thinking about it. Our Mom would have had a heart attack or at least wet her pants.Gosh we sure you are all right Faraday. Glad you are taking it easy. Take care.
ReplyDeleteMaxwell: *interested look* so are wet pants the first sign of a heart attack? *takes notes*
DeleteThat is my worst nightmare - one of the cats falling out the window! I'm glad you're okay Faraday :)
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: *sigh* I woulda LOVED to fall out that window. Instead, it VISHUSLY attacked me!
DeleteMy Mommy would has had a heart attack! She is very happy that our windows crank or is sliding.
ReplyDeleteThat said, me has truied to close the Car Window on my neck! Good thing Auto manufacturers have thought about that!
Kisses
to Farady!
Nellie
FaRADaY: I canz say wif authority - those windows are VISHUS creatures!
DeleteOh noes, poor poor Faraday! I hope his little paw is all better soon!
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: *tries for innocent look* ... *quivers lower lip slightly* Why...thank you Daisy.*heavy sigh*
DeleteAllie: oh knock off the dramatics, Faraday, the vet said you'd be FINE!
Oh ouchy poor Faraday. Iam sending you lots of healing purrs. I am sure it looked like a good idea at the time.
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: well, it gotted her attention. But I still didn't get to go out...
DeleteOh buddy, that's are real owey! I got my paw jammed in a lawn chair when I was a puppy, thankfully mom kept her cool but the rule now is NO lawn charis fur me. Hope Faraday's feeling better real soon!
ReplyDeleteMOWZERS! You means I gotta watch out for VISHUS lawn chairs too? *goggle-eyed look*
DeleteWow, that is really scary. Thank Cod you were home! We're glad to hear nothing's broken, how lucky! Our neighbor's cat was sitting in the open window, pushed the screen out and fell out of the window. He never came back home. So we only leave windows open a little. Maybe we need to rethink that.
ReplyDeleteWe likes Cat's idea of putting a block in the window to keep that from happening! WIN!
DeleteOh poor kitty!! The Human would love to lean right through the screen and give that paw a million little kissies! Lucky for you she can't Man!! Hope you gets to feeling better fast! XOXOXO
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: oh yeah, I'm totally digging this human sympathy! *holds paw up higher*
DeleteMaxwell: FARADAY! Show some respect!
DeleteGood heavens George um sorry Faraday. What a thing to happen I bet you scared mum half to death young kitty. * thumping heart * Guy, don't play tarzan again - please!!!!
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: oh she gotted plenty scared, she did! And I gotted pawesome drugs. Except they wore off this morning and I scared her again. *sigh*
DeleteI just wasn't up to eating...
Maxwell: dude, that's SO not like you, no wonder she freaked. But V-E-T said it was just the painkillers wearing off. You were FINE when she got home just now!
Aaww! Poor Faraday, such a pretty kitty! Glad to have found your blog. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: Thank you! See Maxie? She thinks I'm PRETTY!
DeleteOh ouchie!! Poor kitty! Hope it starts feeling better quick!
ReplyDeleteFaRADaY: Didz yoo wanna kiss my paw too??? *hopeful look*
DeleteMaxwell: *slaps paw over Faraday's mouth* Excuse him, he was born in a barn.
Oh poor Faraday! I went all hot and cold!! Hope the little rascal is better soon. Austin is always sticking his paw in where he shouldn't and the other day he got it stuck down the side of the radiator .. don't ask! You know cats :(. Anyway no harm done, but they are as bad as kids aren't they!!! xx
ReplyDeleteMaxwell: Oh my cat - really? I loves playing with the vent louvres (kind of drives Momma crazy - not that this would have any bearing on WHY I do it or anything...)!
DeleteOh no! As a Rattlesnake I can vouche for that. Some human stepped on my tail with cowboy boot heels. Yeah, I bit him! My tail was sore but no Vet would help me. Crazy bigots take care of Cats and Dogs only. Luckily there was a patch of snow. Kept the swelling down.
