When pots and pans are clattering away in the kitchen:

The moment the seal on a small, 3-inch can is cracked open:

  5. Oh yes indeed......we know that sound over all other sounds. Mom says it's funny how we can IGNORE most noises around us but when that top pops - we're ALLLLL over it!

  7. I have tried all kinds of things to mask that sound so I can give one cat a few extra calories but Muffin and Fleurp have NEVER been fooled. My next thing to try is to actually leave the house to open it

  8. It amazes me how they can hear that sound from anywhere in the house.

  11. We cats know what #priorities are all about. Can sounds are some of the BEST sounds of the day!

  12. MOL! We sure unnerstand that! TBT can pop the top off a can of soup, a can of tomatoes, even a can of chiles. But even when he tries REAL hard to silently open a can of OUR foods (and way before the lovely smell could reach into other rooms), we are all there walking around meowing at him ta dish it out faster!

TBT thinks he could open one OUTSIDE and we would know. Well, of course. Our hearing is about a 100 times better than his! He doesnt even have THOUGHTS to describe the variations in sounds we hear.

We were just watching a TV show about cats recently, and it said cats have like 8 octaves of hearing. Which "sounded" about right. What surprised us was that they said humans only have like 5. Poor humans. How do they survive?
