Breaking Mews: TWO Tooth Fairies!

We know this news may come as a bit of a shock to you, gentle reader, but we swear it's the truth.

There are TWO of them.
WORD.

We present to you Exhibit "A":

Faraday: Mowzers, LOOK Maxie, the Tooth Fairy's using Aunt Connie's address!

And she knows how much kitties looove tissue paper, too!

Hrmpf. THIS PAPER SHALL NOT DEFEAT ME!

Later that same day ... Exhibit "B" arrived:

Allie: "sorry the tooth fairy's late" ... Interesting. From the address on this package, I must deduce that the tooth fairy is attempting to throw us off the scent. Moving around, using different addresses and such.

This one comes from our Aunt Ellen!

Hm. Maxie's still recovering, and Faraday's distracted by the other Tooth Fairy package ...

I think I'll just test drive a few of these for them first.

Ooh you lovely blue fellow. I'm usually a pink girl, but one whiff and I was all yours!

Fine, Allie, but you just keep your distance from this one, are we clear?

Faraday: Sweeeeeeet!  My own chicken leg!

But the best of the gifts Aunt Ellen sent us?
Maxie got his tooth back.

And from the look of things, he is not letting go. (we don't blame you, dood. We wouldn't either.)

Maxwell Update + Vimtag Winner

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers for Maxie yesterday as he had his annual dental cleaning.

Unlike us humans, a feline dental is usually done under anesthesia, so it's a bit more involved and causes a bit more concern than a human's trip to the dentist!

And this time, it became especially worrisome when we received a call after they had Maxie anesthetized and began to see exactly what they were dealing with.

Maxwell has a condition our veterinarian is convinced was exacerbated by Maxie's poor health as a kitten. Although veterinary medicine has been unable to prove the link between chronic respiratory infections and stomatitis, our doctor has seen far too many to believe it's mere coincidence.

And Maxwell had it all as a kitten: he fought respiratory infections, calicivirus and kennel cough, along with all the ear issues we recently told you about.

Allie: Hrmpf. I had to endure the vet yesterday too, but no one's asking how I fared! I think I'll just leave.

Some day, our boy will be completely toothless. Yesterday, he lost three more. (they wanted to take 4 teeth, but decided to wait and watch the fourth one.)

And two of them were A Big Deal.

The left lower fang (or canine) had severe bone erosion and had abscessed. Despite Marty's persistent attempts to argue for keeping it, eventually he was even convinced it had to come out.

Maxie, this morning. He's on buprenorphine for pain, but otherwise acting like his usual cheerful self.

Taking a lower canine in a feline can be a very challenging thing, and can end with a fractured jaw. Just ask CHo over at Naked and Hungry blog - it happened to her "naked" sphynx cat Jake when the last of his teeth came out.

Our veterinarian, Dr. Eberhardy, told us late yesterday afternoon that Maxie had provided his dental challenge for the month - he said he was sweating bullets during the careful procedure ... but all went well.

The other Big Deal was the big molar in the back. Historically, we've had issues with these incisions getting infected in Faraday and Allie, so we're watching it carefully.

All 3 teeth were on Maxie's lower left side, so he's pretty bare over there now!

How's he feeling? We'll let him tell you himself. ;-)

Kitties, did I tell you that the Tooth Fairy's got an assistant?
Yup. She does.
And she was worried the Tooth Fairy might not get to us, on account of all the snow in the northeast and stuff.

Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, whatevs. Let's get to the good stuff, Maxie.

Miss Ellen from 15 and meowing was worried Maxie might get missed by the Tooth Fairy, so she crocheted us some pawesome gifts. Hand made, kitties. For us.

Faraday: Might I point out, Maxie, that she said to share, too?
Maxwell: *sigh* I heard you the first time, dood. And the second, and --

Maxwell: Uh wait. Momma! Don't just stand there! Throw that red roll to me. I'll go long!

Mm-m-m-m. Hershey's got nothing on these kisses, kitties. Let me tell you!

"Please unwrap." Don't mind if I do....

Mmmpf! *tug*tug*tug*

Faraday: Maxie. Step aside and let a kitty with fangs show you how it's done.
(ouch. Harsh, dood. Harsh!)

Faraday: See the dexterity. The prowess!

Maxwell: Okay, dood, you can have the Kiss. But don't you be messin' with my Blue Ball, you hear?

Allie: *sigh* BOYS. Just stay away from anything pink, and we're good.

The Tooth Fairy's REAL. (part 1)

She's REAL. And she lives in Maine. Or is it Massachusetts?
Or maybe she just got snowed in while delivering toys to other kitties and had to use the regular post to deliver her gifts.

Anyways, kitties, she CAME!
And my fangs that momma put in my cat tree bed are, like, gone and stuff.

*whispers* She's really REAL.

Faraday: She said to share, Maxie.
Maxwell: I can read, dood.
Faraday: Uh, no you can't, actually.


Well she brought us loads of cool wand toys and feather-butt mousies and stuff. Who else would do that?

Ellen would, that's who. Didn't you see?
She must have been concerned that the Tooth Fairy would get snowed in too, on account of she's probably got elebenty zillion inches of snow at her own house and she knows how that goes.

But on to the TOYS, kitties. Oh, the toys....

Maxwell: Step back, Faraday. I'm going in!

Faraday: *impatient noise* Well, Maxie...?
Maxwell: *echo-y voice* Dood, we hit the Motherlode!

Faraday: Wait, is this like that Narnia closet? Bigger on the inside?

Maxwell: oooh, a pawesome white one.

Faraday: I'll just be taking this blue 'n' red one off your paws, Maxie.

Maxwell: s'okay, dood. I've got the blue 'n' yellow one.

Uh, but maybe no one better touch the pink one... You know how Allie gets about PINK.

Faraday: mmmmrmph? What's that, Maxie? I'm kinda busy right now with this feather-butt mousie....
