Thinking of Feral Cats and Food

Today is both National Feral Cat Day and World Food Day.

As I look at the sweet, hearing-impaired boy who brings joy to each day, I realize that he, too, could easily have been both feral and without food.

If it weren't for the kind people who rescued and fostered him until he could find his forever home.

Today, if you can, donate an hour to a shelter to help socialize cats.
And if you can, donate food to those shelters working so hard to find these sweet kitties a home.

  1. Those cats need and deserve our help, and everyone can do a little something. Purrs

  2. Both Binga and Boodie could have been out there - if someone hadn't been there for them at one point or another. We need to help ALL kitties!

  3. All of our precious pets could have ended up the same way if not for good humans intervening. It's something we all need to remember.

  5. That's how it would have been for Stinky, Pumpkin and Harry. Or not to mention all the little kittens I saved and homed when I lived in NJ. Poor little things.

  6. Yesterday on our local news they were discussing the sad situation at one of our rural shelters (which had to be shut down for a week due to an outbreak of Pravo) and it made me think, that Annabelle came from one of those rural county shelters and I shutter to think of what she went through before I found her. Thankfully that day she was owner surrender there was a rescue group to take her and find her way to me.

  7. We donate food and things for dogs sometimes, as for cats, Mom always adopts shelter cats and that is her commitment to shelter cats. When you end up with a cat like my cat bro Bert, the shelter should be paying us to keep him, but we do love the guy, he is just trouble!

  10. A good reminder....we have a couple with our rescue that feed several colonies every day and go through a LOT of food

  11. We have a wooded area not far from our home where a large community of feral cats resides. I have often wanted to drop food off for them, but I'm afraid to call attention to them. People can sometimes be very mean to cats. It is close to several restaurants and I know they feed them at night.

  12. Zoey was out there. If she had been taken to a shelter after being trapped...she wouldn't be here today. Instead, she ended up here...because there wasn't anyone willing to take her. Thank cod for those that help socialize those kitties that need it.

  13. Your sweet boy is lucky to have a home where he will always be safe and loved. Hopefully TNR and "community cat" projects continue to grow in popularity so that those cats are safe and cared for.

  14. Yup. they all deserve better than living in the wold trying to fend fur themselves. Last summer we donated oodles of food to one of the local shelters...and when Minko disdains his noms, that is where they still go.

Shelters must have rather varied diets, MOL!!

  15. Our sweet Astrid could have been learning to live off the land if she and her brother had not been rescued from a roof as itty bitty kittens all alone. Mom is grateful everyday that Astrid had a great foster Mom to bottle feed her and then a great kitty mom to continue to feed and socialize her. 17. our well funded shelter is running so low on canned food it isn't funny. People donate dry because it makes a bigger impact statement, but the canned is so very necessary
